Remove the refining cap. Let us refine as much as we can grind. Eventually we'll run out of dilithium dailies and STFs will tire us out. Most players probably wouldn't be able to manage more than 50k dilithium per day, especially since the STF changes will remove drops that can be traded for dilithium.

Last time I checked, high tier starbases cost millions of dilithium to upgrade. People are going to want to buy that dilithium with Zen if there is more of it on market and the value of Zen rises. More Zen purchased = more profits for Cryptic.

Nobody would buy zen if they could refine as much dilithium as they earned. The game would shut down.

Not everybody could or would spend 24/7 earning dilithium; we're not all highschool kids on summer break with no jobs, no kids and no social lives. Also there are daily caps to the amount of raw dilithium you can earn. The only non-cap are STFs and they're' being nerfed with the EDCs/tech/salvage disappearing.

Let's count the daily rewards:

Officer Reports: 1440
Alpha Quadrant Midterm: 480
Exploration: 2880
Breen: 2400
Asteroid Mining: 925
Eta Eridani: 1440
Daily Fleet Action: 1440
All PvP dailies: 7200

Total from dailies only: 16765

For STFs I admit 1100 dilithium every 20 minutes is awesome. 3300 dilithium per hour is great. Waste 5 hours a day on that and you get 16500 dilithium per day if you want to play at the expense of the rest of your life.

Yes there's more one can do, like Borg invasions, Mirror fleet events, Academy Events, etc, but you're not looking at more than 50-60k per day for hardcore players.

And it would be asinine to think that many players wouldn't prefer to buy Zen and trade it, rather than go through the constant grind themselves when they have things to do like eating, sleeping, work, family, and life in general.
