Note the word, NEW. And I agree, this is the 25th Century, 30 years post-Nemesis. Granted, old allies may become enemies, old enemies may become allies. But where are all the NEW enemies and allies? Space is pretty frickin huge. The Federation especially, is vested in the notion to "Seek out new life, and new civilizations". No exploration done AT ALL, in the 30 years since Nemesis?

I think the classic rivalries are still good. That said, the victory conditions should be a little more complex than "blow them out of the sky, lather, rinse, repeat." Scenarios, multi-group cooperation with multiple/simultaneous objectives, etc., would be good.

Well, there's the whole "dealing with someone else's IP" that complicates matters

Also, there's likely been lots of exploration, but species like the Borg or 8472 will be very rare (edit: "elder game worthy"*). Hell, even finding species with resources like the existing major players is rare at this point.

I think the Delta and Gamma quadrents would be excellent places to expand the game

edit* Remember, the Borg were made to scare the hell out of everyone. Species 8472 was made to scare the hell out of the Borg. There does come a point where things get ridiculous.

The Iconians are new, even if the race itself predates the game and goes back to TNG its still a species that was utter uninvolved and was thought off as long extinct.

Besides if you look at a map, yep ... not much exploration have been done because of how Federation borders have been boxed by Romulans, Klingons and the Cardassians, even if they have some room to explore in one side they are pretty much blocked by the Romulan and Klingon border and the other by the Cardassian Union.

Also Nemesis? try TNG were they just encountered the Feringi Alliance and about ended a war with the Cardassian Union that started back in 2347.

Granted yes space is big and there is probably still much to explore...but you can't expect there to be a empire in every system.

Federation in one way or another has been to each corner of the galaxy pretty much, though still probably a fair bit to explore especially in the Gamma and Delta Quadrents. Only so much expanse that can be done...in those two You had the Borg to deal with in the Delta and the Dominion to deal with in the Gamma.

Who is to say how many more super powerful enemies are out there in out galaxy? Might have to some day look outside our galaxy for the next super power.

Exactly. Or dimension. Or to our distant past or future. Or possibly a civil war, and you are fighting your peers and equals.

That said, simply fighting technologically superior (or at least superiorly statted) enemies is sort of boring, and the typical MMO treadmill/progression. I'd like to fight enemies who are maybe smarter, sneakier, etc. Not sure about more numerous, though... Zerging is sort of boring/annoying too.
