# 1 So... If I read this right...
10-21-2012, 01:34 AM
Please, please tell me I am NOT reading this right, because it sounds so ridiculous to even suggest:

http://www.stowiki.org/Reputation_System

People will be running around with 30-60 extra passive starship weapons training skill, 3-6% extra critical chance, free bites at a reverse KHG placate procc, chance rolls to recieve massive moar shield heal upon critical hit, a passive extra 1000 shield per 6 second tic and a passive bfi doff proc for hull.
'Romulan plasma weapons' phaser plasma hybrid that aren't resisted by borg shields anyone?

That's just space, I'm not even going to start thinking about how ground pvp has been bolloxed here, because it beggars belief.

Thank bleepers I barely play this pos anymore.

My best guess is you'll see from a more tactical set up the following choices, because you do have to choose either/or..

Romulan:
Probobly Increase Crit hit, but maybe Increase weapon Training by 30. Depending on build.
20% Insta heal to shields when you are crit. Because we know the 5% when you crit to Placate won't last more then 1 second or the next volley of damage, which ever is first.
Science Buff Clicky.

Omega:
Maybe the Increase Weapon Training by 30. Depends on if it's better then the Passive Regeneration buff. I'm expecting it to be from the info given.
More then likely Increased shield Regen, as once again, Placate kinda sucks. And it's the same placate as the Romulan one.

Making it probobly:
+30 Weapon training, +3% Crit hit, 20% Chance to get Shield heals when you get hit with a Crit, Increased Shield Regeneration, and once every 10 Minutes +100 all science skills.

Although I could see Faw Boat healers running the Placate ability for a 5%x2 Placate perhaps. But that's a guess more then a sure thing. As I could see that being a nice have, especially with the +3% Crit hit ability.
You think that your beta test was bad?

This sounds terrible, for a number of reasons:

  1. More grind, obviously.
  2. More ways for PvErs to gimp their builds, especially if there is no way to respec these choices. One choice for example only works against Borg, while the other one is genuinely useful.
  3. More power creep across the board, because healing and damage weren't extreme enough before.
  4. Many of these mechanics are poorly thought out, including pretty much anything to do with critical hits. Getting free shield heals when you're critically hit? Placating your attacker when you're critically hit? Placating your target when you crit them -- which wears off when you do more damage? Really?

Ideally these would just be disabled in PvP. Otherwise, if it's a significant grind this will probably drive me completely away from STO and into the arms of MWO.

im really starting to lose hope now, about everything. grind to power creep win, with no possibly way of balancing it. the extremes will get more extreme, and the baseline will be even more harmless.

Ya I know right in typical Cryptic fashion they take one step forward... and a couple back again.

I mean the borg set change, and the look at tac team and bfi that bort has mentioned they plan to do... A good way to reverse some of the creep dmg that has seeped in after 3 years... (yes I said dmg and I know those are heal nerfs, don't make me explain that again. lol)

Then they go and say hey lets give you another +crit chance console... and hey lets give you another +3% crit chance passive.

Really if I am still around to grind it out... my main tac with my loved Crthx3 weapons will end up with close to a 20% crit chance... I am going to take people out with one volley if they aren't supper buffed.

+3% crit chance is a HUGE number... you think they would be catching on that all these +0.5% add up... I mean even at 0.5% chance on subnuke doffs people still complain...

This one change on my tac already employing a high crit chance system... this is going to boost me a good 1000 dps easy.

a ton of damage and heal creep, mostly from indirect sources like sets. but for damage, i can say 1 word, bug, and no further explanation is needed. if thats not enough, 4 or 5 purple mk12 tac consoles and purple mk12 weapons, thats not creap, thats exponential.

the result is higher pressure sure, but its spike, the difference between max and baseline, that is the most out of control. same with healing too. game is to spiky. unbuffed weapons fire does almost nothing, this adds to the problem.

im completely in love with movement control and critD 3 weapons, suddenly they just die from 7 to 10k crits. the critD were like 4 mkXI for less then 600k, had to snag those. i imagine crits more often would be better though, need to check the exchange again. also, antiproton, the old mk X mark store that are critD2, critH, another character gets great use out of those.

acc is kinda pointless imo, your not trying to control the movement of your target? or having a team mate do it for you? whats up with that lol

Yip, when I first read it I was somewhat concerned to say the least.

As with all these things I must wait and see.

I agree the shield heal will probably be the best one, but that placate one is gonna be more annoying than you may think. First off, AOE trigger of the ability should last the full 6 secs. with as little damage as faw is doing right now, an engy cruiser running faw could stay placated quite a bit. With csv being a much needed ability right now to deal with trash, scorts and cannon cruisers will be placated to anyone in the splash damage quite a bit as well. How about an escort under fire using it along with a khg shields placate chance. If he's firing at someone firing back, between his crits, and the shields placate chance, he'll look like a blinking light blinking in and out. It will be pretty tough to keep him locked on.
