This is FNN special reporter Gina Thomas reporting live from Starfleet base Praetorian on the Klingon border. It is a veritable hub of activity at the best of times, known on starcharts as Starbase 381 or to many that I've spoken to here, simply as 'home'. Today's activity levels would seem to make even orbital control around Earth seem like a trivial chore.Thousands of Starfleet personnel are preparing, some are saying, for one of the largest military deployments since the Dominion War.
A build up of ships and personnel this large simply cannot go unnoticed, but the question on everyone's mind seems to be 'what is the target'? What will their orders be? Many people are looking to the two, all-night sessions recently held by the Federation Council where an exasperated President tried in vain to gather a consensus on a military deployment to the Tau Dewa sector.
The Mol'Rihan government and Starfleet Command have come under increasing pressure to ensure the stability of the sector, and provide security for the thousands of Romulans who are flocking to the banner of a new homeworld. Working against them are a number of criminal elements and the interests of resident powers in Tau Dewa who, many suggest, have never truly been friends to the Romulan people.
Only one thing seems certain - the hours are counting down to a decision and orders that could impact the entire balance of power in the Beta Quadrant. Praetorian station, one way or another will be in the middle of any outcome, good or bad.
For FNN, this is Gina Thomas reporting live from Starbase 381.
The latest attack by the Klingon Empire came with little warning and was met by a well prepared line of Starfleet defenses, anchored at Praetorian station. The assault spread across most of the front with the Klingon Empire and according to many was a probing attack, intended for the Klingons to keep tabs on Starfleet's deployment strength across a large sector of space.
Other sources including retired Starfleet Captain Stanley Foster suggested another possibility. "This is about sending a message, frankly. The Klingons see what the Federation is planning for the old Romulan territories, and they are telling us that they will move against us if we over step our reach." Foster told me from the bridge of the civilian transport he now operates. "They may have had other objectives... the need to feed a blood lust before their High Council, I'm not sure, but the message was clear."
The 26th Fleet continues to be at the vanguard of defensive operations along a pivotal corridor of the Beta Quadrant, and was a chief participant in protecting Federation assets and outposts during the assault. When asked for comment, Admiral Jennifer Hunter's office provided prepared statements praising the valor of her commanders and their crews, but providing little other detail. It is now understood that the normally forthcoming Admiral has been called before a Federation Council Committee along with her superior officer Admiral Jorel Quinn, the head of Starfleet.
When the Committee convenes in a few days, it is expected that the Admirals will be grilled over Starfleet's ability to police Romulan space per the pending debate that has recently garnered so much attention in front of the Federation Council. Hunter is known to oppose the Council's current sentiment, and favors further support of the Mol'Rihan government versus direct intervention. Admiral Quinn has thus far supported his subordinate, but both Admirals, deeply vested in Starfleet tradition, are expected to tow the line, regardless of how the Council votes on the Romulan issue.

FRM: STARFLEET COMMAND, ETA ERINDI HQ
RE: SET CONDITION 1SQ
BE ADVISED: GORN HEGEMONY STARSHIPS HAVE BEEN RECORDED DEPARTING DRAKONIS III SHIPYARDS, BOUND FOR TAU DEWA SECTOR. INTELLIGENCE SUGGESTS THAT THE KDF IS ATTEMPTING TO BLOCKADE STARFLEET / CIVILIAN TRAFFIC INTO THE REGION.
26TH FLEET IS ORDERED TO INTERCEPT GORN UNITS TO PREVENT BLOCKADE. IN THE EVENT THAT INTERCEPTION FAILS, STARFLEET WILL LOSE ACCESS TO THE NEW ROMULUS STAR SYSTEM AND NEIGHBORING SECTORS.
HOSTILE FORCE NUMBERS ARE CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE BUT EXPECTED TO EXCEED THIRTY UNITS OF VARIABLE TONNAGE.
*******END TRANSMISSION******* The CRYSTALLINE ENTITY event previously listed on this page has been cancelled and retconned. Apparently, the queue system is problematic at best. To prevent undue headaches, a new Fleet Action has been chosen for this evening's enjoyment. Tonight 28 February 2013, we will be rounding up those willing or able to participate in an IC Fleet action against the Gorn Minefield. Game rules will be listed at event time. All players wishing to take part, be they 26th Fleet or not, be in the 26th Fleet OOC chat channel, and in orbit of Starbase 381 by 1900hrs EST (7pm EST). Bring appropriate repair kits and consumables. This is an In-Character event.
While the Gorn moved in on Tau Dewa, the Orions and the Nausicans assaulted Starbase 381, requiring the combined forces of the 26th Fleet and Task Force Argo to beat back the invading horde! While battle was eventually won by Starfleet, the KDF's allies had done what they'd come for... Praetorian floats disabled in the void, with her crew struggling to pick up the pieces.
During the assault, Commander Alex Winters was killed in action. With the loss of the station's XO and the CO injured, a new XO had to step up. Enter Lt. Commander Fiona Mackenzie
Lt. Commander Fiona MacKenzie reporting
It's been several hours since the attack on SB381 and everyone is still reeling from it; myself included. What was initially thought to be an attempt by the Gorn to blocade Federations forces in the Tau Dewa Sector, turned out to be a sneak attack by the Klingon Empire on Praetorian itself. Their last attack was meant to test our battle readiness; this time, they sought to cripple us. And even outright destroy us.
The fleet mobilized immediately to first escort the civilians traffic safely out of the system, an to deal with the attacking forces. The Klingons and their Orion and Naussican allies assaulted the starbase and our facilites all at once, causing severe damage to the station, as well as the industrial Fabricator. The 26th Fleet however mustered their strength and fought back fiercely to repel the attackers and defend our home. The casulty lists are...extensive. Sickbay was filled to capacity, but thanks to the efforts of Commander Primus and other the fleet captains, a lot of lives were saved; as wounded were moved to their individual sickbays.
The losses in personnel were also staggering, including my predecessor, Commander Winters. When I was called to the Tactical deck by Captain Nightmoon, I wasn't sure to expect; but it was certainly not what she told me. "Captain Sprint has put you charge for the time being. You're the acting XO unitl he's fit for duty." I was floored by the announcement, as well as shocked and scared by the realization of what it meant. I was in charge of the entire stationl; at it's worse moment. A million thoughts ran through my head: what do I do? What if I screw up? What if I make things worse?
As these thoughts ran through my head, they were drowned out by the constants comm chatter coming from personnel on the station, and through the fleet. The fleet was in trouble, they needed someone to pull them together. Right. Now. I took a deep breath, relaxed, and stopped listening to the anxious voices in my head. That was when Admiral Hunter contacted me. She asked if what she heard was true. I confirmed it, as well as reporting the loss of Commander Winters. She then told me, she had all the confidence that I could do my job. Her encouragement was the motivation I needed at that moment. And I did what needed to be done. I started coordinating with the ships to move the wounded, dispatched search and rescue teams to locate people who may be trapped. I worked with Chief Ill'issin to get repairs done, and Commander Mercer to ensure sick bay continued to remain functional.
This is the first moment I've had a chance to sit down since everything that's happened. We're still a log way to go before Praetorian is fully repaired, but I'll make sure that the job is done. Everyone's counting on me and I will show them that I can be there for them.
I had always hoped that I would someday have my own command. This is not the most ideal of circumstances, but I'm an engineer. We thrive on adversity.
Can Ms Mackenzie earn the respect of her former peers and rise to the challenge of Starbase command? Can she make the life and death decisions required of a command level Starfleet officer? Come find out, on Star Trek Praetorian!
