I was tempted by the MVAM, but I have already a Tac for the VA tier, and the stats looks pretty similar, so I was more inclined to go for the Armitage, since it has the hangar, and I like the engineering abilities to heal hull.

My style is more like firing a lot from far away and move around trying to minimize the damage as much as possible...played cruiser mostly, with my science officer, so I find hard to use small and not so resilient crafts...that;s why I want to start a tac toon, but If there is a choice between indiscriminate damage with low survivability, and lesser damage but with the chance to hold the ground for a bit, i go for the second Which means that probably the tactical escort is not the ship for me (but many loves in pvp, since it is a moving dps machine LOL)

So for low tier ships, the thunderchild would be worth, since I can use the point defense console.

If I buy the sao paulo, are the quad cannons bind on the toon that purchase the ship? Since it is a tier 4 ship I was wondering if there was any way to use the quad cannons on lower tier ship...they seems a good weapon, and considering that I don't do PVP, nor I do STF at Elite level, means that they are the strongest weapon that I can put on my escort

The impulse booster seems similar to evasive maneuver if I am not mistaken

Yes, the Patrol and Advanced Escort is free if you choose one of those as your RA token ship. If not, they're 120,000 dil, same as other normal ships at that level.

Armitage is a very useful thing, and if you are more used to carriers since you have an Atrox, it's much easier to get into, just get used to the fact of not having two Lt. Cmdr level tactical abilities.

Thunderchild is an excellent choice, just know that Point Defense only works at 5 km or closer, and takes smaller targets as priority first, and the targeting is random at that anyways. Still, against many small targets or one large target, it can be brutal. I can give greater detail in how it works if you want.

The Quad Cannons are bound to character, but all C-store ships are account bound, meaning every toon can collect the Sao Paulo as a ship. However, Quad cannons cannot be used on non escort ships (except the Gal-X). While I think you could use the Quads on a lower tier ship, the Sao Paulo is a captain-level ship, and you have to be at the captain level to claim it to use.

Impulse Burst is kind of the opposite of Evasives. For starters, they have a global cooldown between them (so you can't use them both at the same time). Evasive is about turning and moving much more quickly, but still generally staying around your enemy. Impulse Burst is about moving REALLY REALLY fast in one direction to get from one point to another point.

I am curious, are you in a fleet? If so, ask around, they might be able to help you out hugely in-game with what they also think of each console.

Sorry, I can't care less of the post count...I am not 13. I prefer forums where users are awarded for useful replies and "thanks", instead than useless numbers on posts made; but sadly this forum is still old school.

Unless is a 2 line reply, netiquette specify to reply individually; this is how it was since the beginning of internet for the mass (1978 or so).

Back to the original topic.

Not sure how you can be "good" at tac; 80% of the game is done trough ship performance and BOFF organization, if you mess up these 2 whatever profession you have does not make a difference.

Change your weapon type and BOFF skills and your style changes, this is why I always liked this game (and that's why invested in a lifetime sub when we were still in beta).

I have played my sci until VA as an engineer, getting a science ship only after hitting VA, and I can play either way and have fun...the beauty of this game is that the class is not that important, unless you do PVP (which I don't), so if you just buy VA ships, you are basically wasting the chance to have some fun with other ships (altho most of them are just minimal improvements, at least looking at the stats).

Oh, so you still get the tokens when you level up? I heard that it was removed in Season5 when they introduced the dilithium as currency...good to know!

I really like the Armitage, I loved the play style of the Atrox and the fact that it is slow is a downside, but it is tough and I am able to take 2 borg cube (or a cube and 3 spheres) just with the carrier and the photonic fleet...and have fun.

So I cannot target or prioritize what do I hit with the point defense system? It is like the fire at will then? 5Km is fair, considering that if I get attacked by torpedoes or other fighters and mines, they gotta be pretty close (not sure about the range but when I send the fighters to attack they start to attack at a range that is lesser than 10Km, same for the mines, which activates at a short range).

It may be a good console to use when I do not have the carrier, so I cannot use the intercept command. I will definitely buy that ship at this point!

Oh, so the quad cannons are items bound on acquire Anyway it will be nice to have them from captain on; too bad I cannot put them on my carrier

I use Evasive maneuvers usually to do that: run away fast in one direction. When I am alone it won't help much, but if I can get far away enough so my attackers find some other target to attack, it gives me time to use the shield and crew skills to replenish health and go back into the fight. This sounds perfect to get out of the 10K range for the attack; another must buy

I am not in a fleet for 2 reasons: I don't play that often and I cannot commit too much due the constrains that I have (family and work); so usually fleets don't like to have a guy lurking at random and not participating every single day Plus it is hard to find a casual fleet that is on the WC; saw some but they require to commit.

I have my own fleet made by me on day 1...no fun of course to be in a fleet if you are the only one Gotta check again the fleet lists; maybe now there are more adult oriented and mellow fleet that does not require mandatory participation.

The CMDR Excelsior when built right can keep up in ESTFs so that's 1 to keep in mind

I love the excelsior design; and I was planning to get either the AHC at commander level (the trans warp computer may be useful, unless can be used only on the excelsior...the description mention just "cruisers" so I assume that any cruiser class may use it), unless is better to get the refit version...but it cost twice as much.

If you enjoy the catian carrier, but also like flying escorts there is a ship you may really like piloting: the recluse carrier. You cannot directly purchase it from the c-store as it is a lobi store purchase, but it does require keys to open lockboxes so I suppose it -can- be considered a c-store item heh (also you can get the keys or the ship itself from the exchange if you have the cash).

I play a tac officer, and the recluse has some nice options:

- it has a universal commander slot, so you can put a tac officer in there for some serious damage potential.

- it has two unique consoles it can use to up its damage: the tholian web generator and the tholian tetryon grid. The web generator creates a huge energy cage that deals a significant proton DoT to all within it and follows up with a 3k hit at the end. The grid buffs all ally energy ally damage within 6 km by 33% for 5 seconds and allows your pets to get in two extra "reflective" beam hits on the target they are swarming - so good for some burst potential.

The grid console comes with the ship, but you'll need an orb weaver for the web console. Also, onthe the widow fighters can use the grid's reflective beam attacks.

It's a seriously good ship if you like carriers.

Last I checked the carrier could mount cannons. And while the weapon may be bound the ship can be claimed by any character on your account once you buy it. So you could claim it with every character on your account.

As for console abilitys in all honesty I have almost every ship fed side and I don't generaly use any of the consoles past a certain point. The point defence system is probably the most useable and if you plan on buying the armitage you can use the thunderchild costume pices with it. Honestly tho if you haven't leveled a character since before F2P then youll find out that it goes much faster now. You can barely get into the romulan missions before you hit 50.

On some side notes. Yes the free ship with rank up still exists but only if you are currently subscribed otherwise they cost dilithium. And if you a 600 day vet the free VA ship token still exists as well. And as for a fleet I recently hooked up with UFP and so far they haven't asked anything of me. I just play my hour or 2 a day and go on my way. www.ufp.com.

F2Ps I believe get tokens up to captain level, Golds and all Lifers get it up to RA, and 600 Vets and Lifers get a VA token (though your choices are limited).

That's correct, you cannot choose what it shoots at. Even so, it'll fire at torpedoes, fighters, etc and usually kill them in one shot, maybe two if they are really tough, or if it missed. Frigates (including escort-level ships I believe) also take 3 times as much damage as well.

Borg Probes as an example, with that console alone, can be ripped through in moments, even on Elite Stfs.

Well the ship you buy is account bound, so you can claim the cannons on each and every last toon you have.

Impulse Burst also gives you a huge Defense boost, meaning virtually everything will miss you at that point for those few seconds, almost guaranteeing that you're gonna be outta there.

Well, if you want a fleet, mine would be quite glad to welcome you. We're kind of a big fleet, but not a mega-fleet though with so many members, still quite casual though, and even if you weren't on a lot, that wouldn't be a problem at all.

Transwarp computer can be used on any ship, though it's not very useful at all in a combat situation. The one or two point of extra power isn't worth the console slot. For Transwarps, it's great though.

The RA level Excelsior is my favorite ship in the game. It has a Lt. Cmdr tactical on it, allowing it to have a lot more punch than most other cruisers.

Wow. Still old info in regards to ship tokens. Despite what the feature chart said pretty much right up until F2P launched, all players get ship tokens every rank up to and including Rear Admiral, Lower Half since the F2P launch (whether Gold or Silver).

I think that I know which ship are you talking about....is the one that looks like Nero's ship in miniature? (spiky and irregular?); the one that was on the tholian boxes?

I have a very conflictual relation with boxes....until they put some sort of "1 in 10 boxes is a ship" odds, I won't touch them Can you use any of these extra console on another ship?
