Aye, the Armitage is pretty much an escort with a LtC eng slot first, that has a wing of fighters supporting it. This means you are not going to use the fighters as your main dps, your cannons are.
The Armitage is perfect for using 'speciality fighters', ie Danubes and Deltas, as while they produce crap dps compared to Peregrines, they can tractor and slow/pen shields. When Feds get Siphon Drones in future, this escort carrier can mount them and bring some utility to the team.
A note about fighter dps: they have crap power levels, so their energy weapons barely make dents. Its their torps that carry their dps. So as a full carrier (Atrox, Recluse) its best to focus on shield stripping so that your fighters can land their torps to hull. And you have a LOT of fighters, so done properly that's A LOT of torps.
As a Recluse, you can bring a comm tac, load up on tetryon single cannons and turrets, plus flow caps and tetryon energy consoles, then go to town with your widow fighters. You might even want to bring Tetyron Glider, though because I run with 3tech doffs I use Maco 2piece set. And once all the shields drop, pop your tetryon console and together you and your widows will rip the target a new one.
Also, a normal peregrine does more dps than the advanced one because it has photons which have higher shots per minute (just lower dpv) and so break shields faster.
AVOID THE ATROX LIKE THE PLAGUE! On fedside, its either the Recluse or Armitage, or forget it. I can build a better science carrier than the Atrox with the Recluse, so there really is no reason to get one. It doesn't even have a fleet upgrade.
Actually the vo'quv is completely free and good for only engineers and sci's but something free on KDF side that is better than ships you can buy on the fed side so if you want to be decent with carriers you might as well play KDF for those.
