I just bought the Guramba to replace my Mirror Qin and even though the Guramba has 1800 more hull and 0.9 shields compared with the Qins 0.833 my survivability has dropped off the charts,

My build hasn't changed so I've got to assume something is wrong with the ship and I just wasted 2000 zen.

do shield drop when you transform ? or siege mode half your hull strength ?

Perhaps you've just been unlucky and have been on the receiving end of overpowered NPC attacks too much?

From looking at the stats available on the wiki (which don't always tell the whole story), there doesn't seem to be anything that would explain this problem. I haven't flown the Mirror Qin, though, so I don't know how it handles compared to the Guramba. I just know I don't have too much trouble tanking in my Guramba/Engineer combo, even when fighting cubes and gateways. I get killed eventually, but that's what I expect from a tactical-oriented destroyer/escort.

Only thing I can think of is when you go to siege mode you lose some engine power which reduces your evasion a bit...but it shouldn't make a big difference.

I've flown both and they both fly pretty much the same,

the raptor feels a bit more manevurable, but otherwise the same

Please give us an idea where you were testing, under what difficulty, did you change any boff abilities/equipment

Did change modes often (there is like a second or two where you cant use a bunch of abilities mid-transform)
etc

I bought the Guramba cause it seemed like a cool ship and thought the siege mode would be a cool thing that I could put to use, but sadly I never found it to be the case, turn rate penalty and the disengagement after firing javelin interrupts regular weapon firing and actually results in loss of potential damage dealt in any situation. This ship is so identical to the mirror Qin it just seems like flying the same ship just with a different model and tiny stat differences that don't really matter.

The regular cloak of mirror Qin is actually far more useful to me in any situation than siege mode which gives me no benefit in PVE, and in PVP would make me too sluggish. Thus I never used siege mode and now I use my mirror Qin again instead. I hate admitting I made a 2500 zen mistake, So, it's pretty much the same ship it seems.

I've never noticed any issues, the Gumba is pretty tanky for an escort. I'd say either you changed something (power settings?) or you've just been unlucky,

Depends how you use it.

Plasmodic Leech+Siege mode (Don't fire the Javelin)= Whayheyehey power drain on the enemy ship.

I did try out Dual cannons for a higher strike rate and better power drain, but in the end I switched back to DHC's. Polaron could work with this ship, but I use Disruptor becuase of the console buffs to the javelin.

Now the odd thing is I don't use defence on it. It always seemed that as a seige ship it'd get into the breach and just muder everything about it (I do have an eng captain). So I don't worry about the traditional defence of an escort which is speed. I have minimum going to engines (Oh look siege mode even more negatives.. meh, like I care) and just trundle towards the enemy shooting.

Thinking about it Polaron beams banks+ turrets might make the most of its load out. But that sounds just too silly... might have to try it tonight.

If you're mainly playing STFs, it's probably just the ignore shields damage the Borg occasionally do now (hopefully it's a bug and fixed soon) and/or insane crits.

There are Polarized Disruptors now, get a fair bit of both worlds. They're buffed by Disruptor Tac consoles, so your Javelin is boosted at the same time. The downside to them is that there are only two bracket modifiers as the Polarized part adds one to the rarity.

The Guramba Siege Destroyer is capable of producing a large amount of damage so I wonder how is your threat control, cause a spike in damage probably makes you a prime target.
