Once you hit level 50 you are at end game status. Last night I used an alt that I never use and fitted his escort with equipment for just under 1m ec. That character easily gets top damage in any public pve queues. You don't need lockbox ships, STF/omega loot or anything else to be ahead of 95% of the players.
As for getting the best equipment, ships, doffs and reputation that could take months depending on how much you play. You'd need to define what your goal is.
I assume it's OCD. I don't have the best in everything and I'm not close. Some of my friends are space rich by comparison but it doesn't matter as you don't need the best of everything to play. In fact my example with my alt that I fitted out was done for under 1m ec. There's no shortage of good gear at good prices on the exchange unless you only want mk xii purples with specific stats.
I assume part of it is just about meaningless status symbols. Good gear won't save players from their inability to play well.
