# 1 The 2409 Ship Idea Thread

So I recently re-watched Priority One's videoed visit to Cryptic Studios, back from October. In it, one of em said that they were pretty much running out of canon ships (or at least the really popular/well known ones).

Now there's plenty of other soft-canon ships (tons of em if you really feel like digging), but most of those are either kitbash ships or just really old TOS era, or they are from games and books (which can't be used due to licensing issues).

In short, there aren't too many ships left, which in a way is good in my opinion, because it means we'll see more 25th century ships that are totally original, and I personally like that.

Here's a few things to keep in mind:

1. They can be any tier, but try not to go beyond 10-console level ships.
2. Don't have to be Fed or KDF specific (as in, they can be third party/lockbox ships if you want)
3. Try to keep them within reason. There's enough arguably OP ships already in the game, and even if these might be OP, at least keep it 'down to Earth' as it were.
4. Be creative, I'd love to see what we can come up with. Be it with BOFF layout, or unique consoles, or anything else.



I'll start with the obvious elephants in the room...

Typhoon and Jupiter class. I'm personally on the fence about them to be honest, I wouldn't mind them, but I just wonder what they would bring to the plate, as it were, what 'role' would they fill, etc. Mostly that applies to the Typhoon, not so much the Jupiter.

Here's an idea of my own to start things off with:



Michigan-class Support Cruiser (RA level)

500 crew, 7 turn rate, 35k hull, 1.2 shield modifier, 4/3 weapons, +10 shields +10 aux, 4 eng 3 sci 2 tac consoles.

BOFFs: Cmdr. Engineer, Lt. Eng, Lt. Sci, Lt. Sci, Lt. Tac

The Michigan-class was designed as a smaller, more nimble cruiser compared to Starfleet's latest lines of larger and more powerful ships. While not as strong as those ships, it's compact design allows it to maneuver more easily. It has a unique shield system, called the... *insert techno-babble here*...This system allows the Michigan-class to transfer a great amount of it's shield strength to another ship, at the cost of heavily weakening it's own.

Effects of that console:

To self: -50 shield power

To target: Plus 15 shield power (can be boosted up to 35 with Flow Capacitors) for 15 seconds, restores 250 shields per facing (can be boosted by shield emitter skill up to 750 per facing) for 5 seconds, reduces damage to target's shields by 25% for 15 seconds. Has a 30 second shared CD with Extend shields. (Can't be used on yourself)

Barton-class Short Range Support Ship (Lt level)

100 crew, 12 turn rate, 10k hull, 1.0 shield modifier, 2/1 weapons, +5 to all subsystems, 1x console slot each, 2 devices

Intended to replace the rapidly aging (and dwindling numbers of) the otherwise reliable Miranda-class and her ilk, the Barton was designed primarily for support roles. Though small, it is capable of high warp, allowing it to respond rapidly to emergencies. However, it is not equipped for extended duration missions Its defining feature, however, is an oversized shuttlebay for its size, as well as its compliment of light unmanned work drones.

Rather than a console, it comes with two devices; Work Bees and Hazard Drones.

Work Bees function identically to the Odyssey's Work Bee console, only at a two minute cooldown and one less Bee launched.

Hazard Drones work on a similar cooldown and also launches two drone. These drones will clear any debuff or DoT a Hazard Emitters will clear once each. The DoT clearing pulse will also restore some crew over time.

The Work Bee and Hazard Drone devices synergize as a sort of mini-set, allowing both drones to apply a very small shield heal and resist in addition to their normal effects.

Rigel-class Starship

Tier 3 heavy cruiser.

She's an older ship by this point, of course, but as a smaller 2320s/2330s counterpart to the Ambassador, she'd have less then 100 years on her hull!

Chris Madden's Dedication class. Much better looking than the fugly Odyssey. I don't care what it does, its just pretty and should be realized as a full blown model.

Small craft highly maneuverable.
Can load cannons.

Achilles
Tier 4 or 5
Escort
Can load cannons.
Mini quantum torpedo console that allows for rapid firing of mini torpedos (8 per second) from very close range of 4 km if, and only if, the target is above the ship.

Premonition class
Tier 4 or 5
Science vessel
Gemini effect console that can split your ship or an ally ship into two identical copy for a short period of time.

Incursion class
Tier 5
Stealth Escort
Very hard to detect and comes standard with battle cloak (not a console)
Holographic disguise console allows for the ship to disguise as an enemy ship or nearby objects floating in space.

Actually, take a page out of the Armada franchise, they have lots of variety for various faction.
Just don't freaking put the Borg fusion cube in unless they plan of a 20-player PvE event.

There are well over 15 Federation canonical ships yet added to STO, and like 4 or 5 Klingon ships. (No confirmation but the K'vort is said finally going to be available with the Third Anniversary).
