# 1 MACO or OMEGA
12-31-2012, 11:01 AM
I know that it is of course a matter of how you play, but which space set is better? MACO or the OMEGA? I have a complete MK X Omega on one of my toons, and I like the way the ship looks but haven't used it enough to know which is better for STFs. Any advice?

Depends on the ship. Generally, Omega is bonus offense, MACO is bonus defense.

Most people I know like using Omega for Escorts and MACO / HG for Cruisers.
NO to ARC!

It is usually Omega for Tac and Maco for Geer and Sci.

Aesthetically, MACO is the better looking ship and it can travel past Warp 10. I just can't stand the look of the Omega Shields.

If you're running a Cruiser, M.A.C.O. Bacon. Anything else is Omega Force, and this is why.
First off, the Omega Force engines don't work too well on the Cruisers because they're Hyper-Impulse, which don't work well on a Cruiser's broadside attacking. They're definitely nice for a rounded Science Vessel or an Escort. They'll benefit from at least 50 Engine Power.
The Deflector is more suited to the Science types, with their fancy-schmancy debilitation.
Shields are probably the most useful out of the three for Cruisers, because they're fast to regenerate, and high in their total strength.

M.A.C.O. works best for Cruisers, and here are some examples.
The engines give a 25% thrust when disabled. Good for fighting foes with engine killers. They're also decent on the turn rate; no diminishing effect on low Engine power. An Asynchronous Warp Field is nice for basic warp boost.
The Deflector is a Graviton Deflector, which gives a Hull boost in terms of regen and total. If you have a few Science abilities, they will be benefit by Gravitons.
Finally, the Shields are Resilient. They're good for the Cruisers, constantly being pummeled by the NPCs. Sure, it's less shield total, but that's nothing a Transfer Shield Strength or Science Team can't handle. Doesn't +2 Subsystem Power look nice when being shot at, too?

Oh, and M.A.C.O. has a death laser! Perfect for fighting tough foes getting close to the I.K.S. Kang! Also disables any Science-y NPCs by derping the Auxiliary for a few seconds.
