Could the "T" in Varon-T stand for Thalaron? The Varon-T disruptor tears the body apart at a subatomic level much like Thalaron Radiation does. If this is true, that makes that episode far more horrifying.

How come Worf didn't knock out Picard and go on a rampage inside the Scimitar? Taking out two doomsday machines, and saving his friends and his adoptive homeworld would be a more than honorable death. He'd also get to be with Jadazia again.

Why was everyone so trusting of B4? Do they not remember what happened last time they found a dismantled android that looked like Data?

Why did Riker ask Troi of all people to take the Helm? Surely he knows more about piloting a ship.

Why doesn't Nero warn Romulus? They aren't really capable of disagreeing with him.

Do Gingers from the Mirror Universe have souls?

Hmm, sounds plausible, and definitely makes sense as to the threat of the weapon.

He didn't have the stones to do something like that...

Delegation for the win...

Maybe he was planning on doing so after kicking the Federation's collective ass, so he could return home a national hero, rather than a tatted-up miner...

Well... from an in-universe point of view the Varon-T idea makes sense. But from an out-of-universe view, it doesn't. The issue is that the concept of Thalaron radiation wasn't introduced by the writers until Nemesis. therefore it probably isn't what they were thinking of when they named the disruptor. But... it's hard to be sure.... we have no idea what sort of interesting secret notes the writers keep in their files about plot points....

If retconned, sure.

Would require the writers think.

Idiot ball in an attempt to make Deanna useful.

Nero was plain crazy at this stage. Thinking wasn't something he was doing much of.

Thalaron radiation was not 'made up' by the writers at that point. it could be retconned as someone says, although i would say not, simply because of how the death occurred. no turning to ash.

Perhaps he would have, but films tend to ignore a lot of what goes before. this was personal picard vs shinzon, even though data was the obvious choice with so much on the line. picard would never risk the safety of earth and the crew on his own skills at fighting in the show.

Bad writing, again ignoring the 'lore' of the show. pun intended.

yes, but he was not asking her to do anything fancy. he is the best pilot on the ship, but he does not take the helm every time they need to move forward. if it was something intricate then yes he probably would have.

he says the he wants to save his home, so i think he either did already or planned to soon enough.

As I understood it, there is backstory - through the Countdown comic - with regard to how Nero spent his interim of 20 years. Having to wait for Spock to also arrive into the alternate universe. Part of it was being captured and later escaping from a Klingon prison (this part was filmed but edited out). Part of that interim was visiting Romulus to warn them of it's pending doom.

That staff that Nero had with him belonged to the Praetor of the Prime Universe. Nero killed that Praetor for failing to evacuate Romulus sooner. My speculation is that his owning a copy of the Praetors staff didn't go over well with the Praetor of this alternate universe. Thus, Romulus wasn't behind whatever Nero suggested they do. Apparently, Nero didn't choose the Shinzon path to rule the planet himself. So he focused upon planet Vulcan, Spock and planet Earth instead.
