speaking on the borg invading defera there may be something else going on there. if you stay on the invasion zone and look around collect scouting reports they constantly report "the borg have found something" but what? the perserver object on the temple area we found that too its somewhat hard to notice is the only "something" that we have seen so far. maybe more missions are coming to the invasion zone something like "into the probe" to find out if the borg have found something dangerous possibly an assimilated perserver feeding information about weapons to the collect or about genetic coding they used to create the other species in order to destroy them or borg losses are greater then noticed now they must create some more borg perfect borg.
From my understanding they asked for protection from both the klingon empire for helping a fleet and any honor demands klingons to go and fight to pay what they owe the federation i'm not too sure on. but being so close in the alpha quardent from 2800 we know the federation cannot afford to have any planet fall to the borg. i'm sure if it became bad enough you'd see section 31 running around with mini torpedos strapped to there back charging toward the probe lol ok probably not but that would be a fun kit to make ingame. but after that there is talk of them joining the klingon empire or federation for who gives the most aid/support some day they may join something new might be added. maybe a question for the next ask cryptic
Most races the Borg have assimilated (with some exceptions, like species 8472) are seeded species descended from the preservers. It's likely that these humanoid races are easier to assimilate since the Borg know more about their physiology.
If the Borg were able to gain access to the preserver star maps and the locations of all their descendants, they could map a much easier road to assimilating the galaxy by targeting star systems with known humanoid species.
That's my guess at the "something" the Borg would have found on Defera. I don't think the preservers themselves would be a big assimilation target, since there are probably only a few hundred of them left, still in cryonic sleep.
I'd rather ask the question "What did the Federation or Empire do for the Deferi?". We seem to be only cozying up to them for Preserver access and using them as a pawn in our melodramatic chess game with one another. Its been more than a year and their homeworld is still infested with Borg and their colonies and convoys continue to be assaulted by the Breen; their people kidnapped and forced to work in dilithium mines.
If the Deferi would rather die than defend themselves then that is their decision, the Federation should not use them as a means to an end and the Klingons should impeach J'mpok (less politely) and plant the banner of Kahless straight through Ambassador Surah's cold lifeless corpse on the steps of the capital.
Ignoring sollvax (proven troll), they're a neutral power with ties to the Preservers (in stories, I mean). Going by their ideas of Balance, they aid the Klingons in a battle, and trade-but-not-ally with the Federation.
Then when in trouble, they ask for help... it's as simple as that. And neither faction will leave them to their own devices, both because of Preserver site and Borg Invasion.
And you are a disrespectful Mutago
And the preserver site should be tricobalted
there is no reason to allow the borg access to ANYTHING
(i object to being called a troll by this person on the basis he is a Total Jerk)
Given that they are all about balance. Isn't asking for help in the first place tipping the same balance they so cherish??
The enemies attacking them shifts the balance, or so they believe. The result is asking for help, thus balancing things out
Of course, it's difficult to determine what shifts the balance when you're not a Deferi. They could be misleading us and we'd never know it
Was named Trek17, but still an author.
Been playing STO since Open Beta, and have never regarded anything as worse than 'meh'. I have nothing against the game/devs, nor any particular wish to talk bad about either, or praise most decisions. Still, it's better to be positive than cynical.
If we destroy everything we have so the Borg can't get it...what will we have left?
Oh, plenty. Galaxy's a big place, I'm sure we'll run out of torpedoes eventually.
But, seriously, the Deferi have sovereign control of a planet containing what is probably the most advanced technology in the quadrant that isn't Iconian. The Borg are a distraction, the Tholians are an annoyance. Both factions know who the real threat is. We don't know their numbers or their intentions, we're not even completely sure if the now four ships seen aren't just the same ship four times. But we do know that their ships can vaporize a Borg cube and completely disable a starship and have been known to do both just for the sake of intimidation.
Unless their long game is to finally make a fortune selling us clean pants, we need that technology, and more.
The devs will finish the Defera invasion zone any day now and they story will be finished, its not like its a broken mess of an area, right? Just because virtually every mission in that zone is broken in some way...
