Plus, this is wishful thinking. The Vesta had cannons in its "canon" version, and the justification for cannons on a Nova/Rhode Island is merely that there was once a shelved concept for the Defiant that looked like a Nova. No, thanks.

Now STO isn't necessarily the place to be discussing canonicity with any fervor, but still...no.

The only thing I'd like to see on the Nova is more weapon slots fore and aft.. Cannons are nice, but not the holy grail either.

The Nova's a science vessel, plain and simple. SV's are 3/3, as escorts are 4/3 and Cruisers are 4/4. Even the Vesta, which is as close to an escort as an SV will get, is 3/3.

Honestly, I think most of these threads aren't rooted in canon, aesthetics or fan appreciation as much as "Please make my ship more like an escort so I don't have to take my escort into STFs anymore".

Now, I can understand the feeling. Escorts dominate the game and no one likes feeling inadequate, but the answer is to convince cryptic to better balance the content, not to homogenize the ships.

Easiest answer:

Change all ships to escorts, and sell holo-projectors of all the other ship classes. BAM, you can have your fave ship and have the firepower of an escort.
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once.

They should just give it a console that beams over enemy crew and turns them into warp core energy, but only when the enemies shields are down.
The Somraw, K'tinga, D'Kyr, D7, Kumari, Xindi carrier, Xindi escort, and the T'Varo are all older than the Constitution Refit and yet they are tier 5. The rule needs to change.

The Vesta class isn't even a "canon" ship. It appeared in only 3 books "Star Trek: Destiny" trilogy; which also totally rewrote the Borg origin. The Vesta class is considered Apocrypha not Canon.

Maybe if there was a limit to how many you can place on a science vessel, sure.

I personally think NO science ships should get dual cannons. If you want dual cannons, get an escort, and maybe look into one of the hybrid escorts with ok science options.

If you want a 'dps science ship,' go for one of the many torp strategies (transphasic, plasma, torp + shield stripping, etc).
