Excellent point. I actually like the name the only one of the three but must agree Emissary should have been an escort class.

I am still partial to my names and honestly they are better then the other two, but I do not think those who voted even looked up the names people submitted to see what they ment or what they were taken from.

At least I can still use the names for my own ships, so it was not a total waist for me to do a little research on ships of the line, and ships that spanned two great wars.

Indeed korkoff... the best part of this whole contest process was that we actually came up with usable ship names for ourselves. i also agree on the your point of the "emissary" class appellation was the only one that truly fits for ANY of the ships (but of course best for the escort variety) IMO.

my choices were as follows:
Cruiser - Leviathan (because its a tough strong name)
Escort - Sentinel (since its deflector dish looks like an eye)
DSSV - Nautilus

Yes. Input from the culture everyone is claiming to be worried about offending might not be out of line.

Listen to the haters! er... wrong part of the quote

Congratulations to the winners, Luck has favoured you this time.... obviously creative ingenuity hasn't :p

But seriously, I'm with the rest on this... it's certainly a daft name, not because it's religeous, not because of where it comes from.... but coz it really does mean "begger class: ncc 1" = coz they couldn't beg enough for the rest of it's registry....

And Destiny didn't take any great leaps to steal the name from SG:U
Emissary does work for me, it's meaning links it to Star Trek, not just through Sikso and DS9, but the dictionary term too. I like it so SUPERGRATS to the winner of that one

now as anyone got any spare registry numbers *holds out Dervish Begging Cup*

I wonder if any of the winners are senior members of the STO forums?
