I'm used to doing the system patrols by myself. If I warp in and someone else is already there I warp out for various reasons: They were there first and I don't want to step on their toes. They have half the enemies killed but those don't count towards my mission completion. E-peen displays.
More importantly, the mobs scale up to the player with the highest level. Which means the one of us with the lower level gets pasted by the mobs. All in all I find them a bad scene.
However, twice last week similar things happened that made me change my mind. Both times the cruisers were higher level. Eight levels higher than my escort and fifteen level higher than the science ship respectively. What did they do?
They tanked. They both raced ahead, hit Fire At Will as their opening shot, and kept the mobs off me during the encounters so I could do my thing.
Granted, perhaps my lower levels meant the mobs cared not for me. But both cruiser captains made the effort to help me help them. It was so out of the norm I've experienced that both times this unexpected teamwork made me not think to issue a thanks at the end.
It's probably not you. But if you're reading this and it is you, thanks. You raised my opinion of team-ups a lot this week.
I'm still not going to do the Crystalline Entity PUG, though...
If you don't want to ever see other people in your missions, go to your social options (default button o ), and set open teaming to off (or whatever; I don't recall the exact wording).

I've never gotten that. Most of the time they just race off to get the next group while I'm in the middle of a fight.
When I was doing it with my much weaker Hope class, I would debuff the baddies, and then do the target of the patrol. (Click a satellite/ kill a Klingon) Sure they had to do the heavy lifting. But at that level gap I would have been swatted.
But I assisted them. I feel that's important even if the help is minor.
So times the Developer team does a hard test to make sure the patrols are working in the old days you go into the mission menu and select the patrol you wanted.
A few seasions ago they changed it to just going to the system unless you at Sol admeral office I think the missions are there.
Seeing other people in the patrols is normal its about the only way for other people to see your toons you created because you beam down to the planet for ground missions with that person.
Last time I checked if you unteam or warp out it messes things up for the player you left.
question when you do a system patrol and someone else is doing it who your not in a team with you can go to the same patrol mission/instance? i do not do patrols often this sounds very interesting thro
It's been such a long time since I've seen anyone other than my lonesome self in a system patrol I forgot it was even possible, and on my newer alts, I've stopped doing them entirely since leveling is so fast they're unnecessary, and they're not repeatable, so on my older alts I don't even see them anymore.
