It really depends on what you want to do with it. The Excelsior is pretty sweet for dishing out some DPS. I've got the Oddy 3 pack on one of my Engineers and use the Sci version for epic healing, and I've also got a Galaxy-X just for giggles. I'm actually waiting to get our Starbase up to Tier 3 and I can pick up the Fleet Excelsior for my current Excelsior captain. I hear it's pretty wicked.

Well...there are three different versions of that ship, so the one you really want is the fleet advanced heavy cruiser retrofit, which is hands down my favorite cruiser in the game at the moment. It's a fantastic ship and you definitely wouldn't be disappointed with your purchase.

However, I do want to point out that the Ambassador class is being released in just a couple of days. I'd recommend you hold off on buying anything until then, since you'll be able to get one for free and it may fulfill all of your cruiser wishes.

I've been saving up Zen for the 3-pack myself and I will also be seeing what this Tier-5 anniversary ship is like before I decide whether to keep doing that, or if I can blow that Zen on other things instead.

I suspect I still want the 3-pack. Because it's there. Besides, if I ever do another engineer someday, the Odyssey unlock will be account wide. The anniversary ship won't be. Granted I might not do one for ages, or maybe ever. But it is worth mentioning.

I'd say save your money see what the 3rd birthday ship is like , and then still save your money as a new high end T5 cruiser will be out in next few months probz.

You know, I bought the Odyssey 3 pack late last year when they had a sale...

I used the 3 consoles on the Operations version (ran it on an Engineer) and it just did not do much for me. Having all 3 consoles on one ship brought their cooldown faster.

I too would love to get my hands on the Fleet Excelsior. But back to topic...I used the Oddy for about a couple of weeks, gave up on it. Went back to my Excelsior and put that away to use my Chimera Destroyer as an aux to battery build. I've been using it ever since.

I may try an aux to batt build on the Oddy Operations cruiser and see if it becomes more interesting (but that's a separate thread entirely).

If you have spare change lying around and if you really, really like cruisers, I'd say get it (you have tremendous flexibility of choice for all 3 captain types). YMMV.

i had both the oddy pack and regent. if you really want a cruiser type ship i would suggest to save some money and get only the sci oddy.

to make room for new ships i got rid of the regent and ops oddy. the 3 piece set is worthless.

Ha ha ha ha ha kids these days.

The Odyssey strength is that is that you can adapted it to fill most roles due to its Universal Lt. Cmdr and Eng stations, the question of the pack is this.

Is the 3 console set worth it?

Having the set does this:

+0.5 Flight Turn Rate
25% recharge time reduction to the Odyssey Console Set
+12 Starship Hull Plating
+12 Starship Armor Reinforcements
+12 Starship Electro-Plasma System

This is substantial, the main downside of having the 3 consoles is you have a ability you cannot use along with the other, that is separation and the Aquarius.

Also 25% recharge time means worker bees (that always work) will have a CO of 46 seconds instead of 57 seconds.

Now as the hull ... Tactical because you need the extra tactical slot, Sensor Analysis is not a deal breaker because it takes 1 whole minute for all the stacks and you cannot break lock and you have to be within 10km of the target, +33.3% after a minute sounds good right? except that just weapons and a 3rd tactical slot means you will be doing +30% from the start with a Mk XII purple, sure its the top console but a Mk. XI blue means +26.2% also from the start without having to rebuild the stacks.

Also ignore the Kirks, if you want a cruiser that can be adapted to almost all situations ... its the Odyssey (Vesta comes close) but its a cruiser, remember you are not on a Escort so dont except dealing a lot of damage, what the Odyssey gives is flexibility with a strong hull but not killing power, if you want a Tactical ship its either a Escort or the Regent.

As I do not own the Regent I cannot speak for it.

The fact that the aquarius and chevron can't be used together isn't really a downside - you can alternate as and when they get taken out and almost always have one or the other active (at worst, double the uptime of a single combat pet).

I love the Ops Odyssey, not only is it a pretty excelent ship for a healing build, but it's a phenomenal tank to boot.

Turn rate on a cruiser is mostly irrelevant, you don't really need to move around with a 4/4 or 3/3 beam-focused build.

Just a query, what kind of turn rate do you get with an Odyssey while Chevron Separation is in use?

EDIT: Sorry. Found my own answer, looks like +8 turn rate: http://www.stowiki.org/Ability:_Chevron_Separation

I don't have the Ody 3 pack, but I cannot recommend the Regent enough if you want a tac cruiser. Some players dismiss the wide angle torp but fail to realize that its the ideal weapon to add to your broadsides.
