I see what your saying but just because you can access differant things from differant positions, each position is still 'Designed' for a role.
Perhaps Federation have more Uni-stations and the Klingons get a new seperate universal Console. This way it balances out and feels more like canon, because let's face it, Klingon design is slang for 'Retro-Fit' anyway
ATTENTION:UNDINE SPACE & TKON GROUND SETS ALL THE WAY DEVS!.. Q-TRIBBLE, MAYBE!?.. EJECT WARP CORE ABILITY LIKE LAYING A SUPER-MINE, HELL YES!!!.. SPACE HIPPIES FROM TOS PLAYING MUSIC IN OUR FLEET STARBASE, NO, JUST, NO... CAIT & RA'KHOLN ADVENTURE ZONE, YES
I was refering to the oft used "FED cruisers are supposed to handle everything in canon." complaint.
Well, this is what I thought originally when I first got the game, that I was gonna grab the galaxy class the first chance I got and really be able to hold my own. When I discovered how outmatched I was in every way, I was extremely disappointed. Somehow, I was being beaten by ships half my size, and with fewer weapons. So I took a few years off, came back, did some reading, and decided to go with the assault crusier, and recently the refit. Still disapopointed with its performance, but it is better. And I'm getting better.

What if there were a cruiser class on the federation side that had an all universal boff arrangement similar to the BOP?
I agree. I find it too limiting as it is. I thought there was an error when I signed up with Klink side and saw the set up. The BOP also automatically comes with Battle Cloak. Anyways... wish the uni slots were across the board. Why not, after all? It would certainly make the game more interesting, at least, where PVP is concerned.
"The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward." - Rocky Balboa (2006)
What would such a Cruiser lose as compensation for being an all Universal BOff ship?
The BoP lost both shields and hull for its advantages. Making a capable but squishy vessel.
So what would the Universal BOff Cruiser lose in Shields and Hull?

To me it sounds like a good counter balance since a cruiser is on the opposide side of the spectrum from a raider. All the same powers with totaly different play mechanics.
I mean the fed cruiser was always a sort of go anywhere do anything ship, so why not have one?
3/3/3 console setup (4/3/3) for a fleet version

IF there were somthing like this the any captain could have their cruiser and kit it the way they want.
Maybe then some of them will be happy. Or realize thet their idea for a cruiser was wrong and end up with better builds.
What a lovely Mary Sue vessel you have there.
