I love my Fleet Defiant ship, but I have to know: why is it the only fleet ship to not receive a 10% boost to its shield modifier (from 0.9 to 0.99)? This has been bothering me for some time, and I'd love to know the reason behind it. Is it even intentional, or just a bug that they keep forgetting to fix?

The Fleet Advanced Escort also comes with 5 Tactical Consoles and the ability to slot Multi-Vector Assault Mode, but it got a boost from 0.9 to 0.99 in its shield modifier. The Jem'hadar Attack Ship, also with 5 Tactical Consoles, has more hull HP, a 1.0 Shield Modifier, and 20 Turn Rate compared to the Defiant's 17.

The only possible explanation (besides being a long-standing unresolved bug) is the potential to equip a Cloaking Device, but that just doesn't seem like a strong enough justification for keeping the shield modifier down. The Cloak is a novelty at best in PVE, and not that great in PVP since it's just a regular Cloak rather than a Battle Cloak.

I just have to know guys!

Better not be the cloaking device that caused defiant to only get 0.9 mod.. MVAM is a more powerful and useful console.

Jem bug is just OP, even more so now with the jem set XII boost and phased polaron weaponry!

Bump Fleet defiant's mod to 0.99, pleaseee

And yet, compared to the fleet escort that has the same costs and prerequisites, it is superior in almost every way, including the shields. Balance of fleet ships and retrofits in this game makes no sense whatsoever.
Maybe it is the size? The fleet science vessel retrofit, a ship as big as the defiant, also gets their shields gimped compared to the rest of the tier 5.

The defiant was the Federations First attempt at a weapons platform only ship. Fast and Firepower were the priority, it's speed and small size giving it a defensive bonus. The Retrofit, improved the existing platform, but could not go far beyond the original design limitations. It's also an old design in terms of the games time-line.

You can't compare it to the Gem Attack ship, which was around when the Federation first encountered the Jem'Hadar, and had been around longer and more refined, then the Defiant.

In terms of the game, The Defiant is buyable. The Jem attack ship is an extremely rare random reward ship - it should be better, that is why it is worth so much and so hard to get.

That might make a little bit of sense if the Fleet Tactical Escort Retrofit was locked to only the Defiant skin... but it also includes newer ships, including the 25th Century Sao Paulo-class, which should logically outperform the several decades-old Jem'hadar Attack Ship used by players.

If they upped the Fleet Tac Escort's shield modifer to 0.99 as it should be, the Jem'hadar would still have more hull, turn rate, and shields than the Fleet Tac Escort. That's fine I suppose, it's still a pretty rare ship and I've made my peace with it being a bit overpowered.

I just really want to know why the Shield Modifier isn't boosted for the Fleet Tac Escort, if it's intended. There just doesn't seem to be any rational explanation. The ship still essentially costs the same as just about any other fleet ship, yet you're getting less for your money (or for someone else's money, if you buy the FSMs off the Exchange).
