I usually use Quantums on my Vesta class with emphasis on the Aux phasers as my damage source.
It also depends on the specific application. For instance, in my vesta, I use chronoton up front to build up the slow, and quantum in the back for volleys for damage after a pass. If I'm in my carrier, or a cruiser, I tend to go with a ferengi missile and wide area quantum so I can spam lots of missiles/torpedoes while broadsiding. I've done some very nasty things with an escort and a tri colbalt though, like mentioned, either be careful when firing it, or mount it aft, so you can run out of the blast radius.

The Vesta is very customizable ship; you can set it up for just about any role or specialization. It can be a good DPS Attacker, a good Healer, a good Controller or an excellent Drainer. It depends entirely on what you are wanting to do with it.

But if you would like feedback on your specific Vesta, then by all means tell us what your goals are. Tell us what you want her to do, and tell us you current Bridge Officer Skill Configuration. We will be happy to offer you suggestions that would fit your current set-up

Well I have her built for damage and staying power which she really does have, I perform most of my damage assessments fighting the Orion Corvettes in Stranded in Space, in one go of Cannon Rapid Fire, High Yield Torp III (with MK XII Very Rare Quantum Torps) and Tactical Team I can erase a corvette in one volley from full shields and hull to dead, and im a Science Captain. So what I want out of my Vesta is Speed, taking something down really fast and doing it consistantly with the most consistant damage output.

Edit: It would also help if I knew what the right carrier pet for my Vesta would be, ive been using Peregrines and im currently working on trying to get either the very rare Peregrines or Delta Flyers.

Ah, I see, I see. A Damage Build.

Quantums would be a good choice if you keep them set to Manual Fire. Your Cannons ought to tear down the enemies' shields and then you can hit them with that High Yield.

Photons will do less damage, but you can fire them more often. Two seconds faster, to be specific. They have higher DPS than Quantums, but less damage per-hit. It is a trade-off.

If you manage to kill the baddies in the first torpedo attack, stick with the Quantums. If it normally takes two, try the Photons instead.

I do not have much to say on the topic of Pets. I do not have enough experience with the various types to make a judgement call. I can say this, though: if you have trouble keeping your targets within your cannons' firing arc, you can select Runabouts as they like to freeze enemies with their 'Tractor Beams'. Of course having a 'Gravity Well' Skill in one of your Science Slots would do you better as you can combine that with 'Scatter Volley' and 'Torpedo Spread' to take out entire clusters of enemies at one time.

I personally LOVE using a high yield Trico at close range.

Use your energy weapons to blast away at their shields, turn 180 at point blank range, put engines to full then FIRE!

Ride the shockwave out, power up all your weapon buffs then come around for the second and final pass.

If you're not willing to scratch your paint you're not having fun with those Tricos!

What about the Omega Torpedo? The one that becomes the mini version of the Unimatrix Ship Energy Bolt torp? Is that good and reliable?

If you can get the Nadeon Detonator photons become a real force to be reckoned with.

The Nadeon Detonator applies to Quantums as well.

I just got one at the end of my last play session. I haven't used it, though. Likewise, I cannot comment on its effectiveness.

An Ionized Gas Sensor doesn't make torpedoes powerful, but it DOES make them drunken and funny.
