Their base math is off, I routinely pop my cap in under an hour, yesterday was about 30 minutes thanks to an extremely generous mining claim award (4500 in under 5 minutes).

As for the inefficiency mechanic, it wouldn't work as there's no way to partially refine your unrefined ore. All or nothing are your only 2 options, so if you have 15k unrefined ore you can't select 'only refine 8k'.

I'd be willing to put a wager on them never lifting the cap. "Never say never!" Well this is a case where I'm 100% confident, existing vet reward aside, that Cryptic will never raise the cap but will continue to preach about avoiding artificial caps on progress. "You can buy dilithium so it's okay to cap your refinement earnings" Yeah, right.

I'm sure they would be willing to lift it to 9 or 10k if push comes to shove, but they're not going to lift it much higher.

The one and only reason the refinement cap will never be lifted: ZEN.

I think Cryptic is happy with how it is.

Your all going to hate this but why not have cryptic sell a cap increase on the z-store. It means people can have a higher cap and cryptic can make a little more cash.

I literally haven't run a mission in over a week and I hit 8K every day through DOFF missions, and burning through the 35K Dil I got for hitting Tier V New Romulus. After that I had a backlog of ~50K unrefined ore. It's now down to about ~24.

I have no idea how anyone can not hit the cap if they're really trying to and have a level 50 character.

I also get between 6K and the 8K cap a day on a KDF character that does absolutely nothing but DOFF missions and asteroid mining because those "Disable Human/Vulcan/Bolian/Tellerite/Ferengi Freightor" missions rain contraband from the sky and those can be turned in for 2K per 5. And I'm making about 10 contraband a day.

Dil is literally the easiest thing in the game to get other than maybe EC. It's just that you also have to spend it on so many things now. The amount in the game isn't an issue but I hit that cap pretty easily which leads to unrefined ore sittin' around.

And that's what I do with 2 slots. I might buy some more, just for DOFF farming which is all free money at the end of the day. I just don't know if I want to cycle through like 6 characters every time I log on to DOFF. That might get a bit nuts and at that point, why bother. But maybe a couple more.

And rate earned per hour of ore probably needs to be adjusted up to around 5k per hour.
Now I think you have something here, offering an in game 'incentive' to increase your personal DIL refine per day.....I like this idea very much.

I have an 88,000 dilithium refining cap on my account. If you are really interested in "farming" dilithium, which I think is pretty boring, you simply need to make more alts. You can then transfer the dilithium to your main character.

Personally, I find grinding boring.

I'm going to admit something really weird...

I have 20 alts. Nine of them are KDF. If I really want something from the C-Store and I'm aggressive enough with my grinding I can probably get a 3 pack set of ships in two or three days via the DOFF system and if I have enough contraband.

While I have 20 characters, I only spent money on 8 of those slots. The rest I got by grinding dilithium.

And now I'll go back into hiding as people will think I'm insane or something...

Raise the cap for 500 zen!!!!

That will Help STO develop and fleet bases

I am not trying to be sarcastic . I wish I could prove it.
Hopefully I'll come back from my break; this break is fun; I play intellectual games.

I hope STO get's better ...
