I was thinking about getting the tactical escort refit, cause I've always liked the defiant, but wanted to know if anyone has some feedback on it.

~How does it compare to the Prometheus class escort? (Not the MVAE, but the level 40 one)
~Are the quad cannons it comes with any good?
~Is the cloaking device useful, or more like eye candy?

Thanks for any help

the refit has quad cannons, but no cloak. the retrofit has the cloak, but no quad-cannons. i find the cloak useful for the damage bonus, but most will probably say its useless. i've never had the quad cannons.

i went from the level 40 prometheus to the defiant retrofit. when i started flying the defiant, i found it less agile and deadly than the prometheus, but i ignored it because i love the defiant. sometimes i think about going back to the prometheus or buying the mvae, but then i realize that i dont need to change anything. i can murder just about any ship out there with relative ease with my defiant retro.

Hi,

Bought this when it was on sale. I don't do well with it myself but in saying that there are many people who swear by it being a great ship. The fleet version is better equipped (hull) but in saying so, you can just as easily by a steam runner which is better suited for PVP anyways.

In relation to your questions:

1) Cant answer this. I use a temporal destroyer. :-)
2) stock weapons is not worth it. Upgrade immediately.
3) Cloaking device is pointless to be perfectly honest. The game nerfed the fed cloak so that unlike a proper battle cloak, once you uncloak that is it. Your unable to cloak again unless you manage to get away from the fight... and even than it wastes valuable console space for something else that could be used in its place.

If the cloak was the selling point, I wouldn't think of it as being the reason for buying the ship. Properly built its a great ship. Cloak is for eye candy, as you said imo.

The cloak is still pretty nice in PVP, as long as you aren't all by yourself.

NEVER decloak to attack a lone target if you're by yourself -- odds are, that target has cloaked friends ready to pounce, which is what you should be doing. If you go into Ker'rat, follow someone else around until either they attack someone, or someone attacks them, before prepping an alpha strike and decloaking. You play it right and you can knock someone out of the fight very quickly like that.

That said, the cloak is pretty much worthless in PVE. Combat in PVE can last quite a while, preventing you from using that cloak, while the enemies themselves aren't dangerous enough to disengage from to recloak.

As for your other questions:

- The Quad Cannons are awesome... in PVE. The [Dmg]x4 modifier is really nice against NPC enemies, since they're not as tough as player ships. In PVP, though, you'll definitely want Dual Heavies with [Acc] modifiers to reliably hit player ships. If PVP doesn't matter to you, then the Quads are definitely nice to have.

- The Prometheus (level 40 variant) is a nice ship, and doesn't have an extra Ensign tactical slot. With only the Com. and Lt. Com Tactical Boff slots, you could set up an all-cannon build without wasting a slot, unlike the Defiant. People tend to like the all-cannon build since it makes combat simpler, without having to worry about timing your torpedo attacks right, and you can fill up all of your Tactical Console slots with energy-boosting consoles (like Phaser Relays), and have them boost all seven of your weapons. Plus, you can equip the Multi-Vector Attack console on the Advanced Escort, not just the Multi-Vector escort (which has a more Science-oriented bridge officer layout).

Still, DS9 was my favorite of the Star Treks, and I love the Defiant ship. It turns slightly faster than the Prometheus, and the Fleet variant is one of the hardest-hitting ships in the entire game.

To be fair, most KDF Klingon ships don't have Battle Cloak either. They have regular Cloak that functions the same as the Defiant one, except they get it for free and don't need a console slot. Battle Cloak is very rare.

IIRC, only the Birds of Prey and the veteran Heavy Destroyer have Battle Cloak - maybe some others, I dunno. I don't play KDF that much.

Either someone with diplomatic immunity zaps you with it or if you want it permanently (minus the speed bonus) you complete many, many Diplomacy/Marauding DOFF assignments.

Be careful in PvP. If someone is packing the Emission-Seeking Torpedo Console, it is going to hurt big time. It can find you while you are cloaked, decloak you, and disable your engines. An Escort than can't move is not going to last long.

How many missions? Where do I actually get the skill? Is it something i have to train in?

Few more questions about the cloak:
-Can I use it indefinitely? Or is it limited?
-Does it have a cool down after i turn it off?
-Can i use it anywhere? like in sector space?
