Can anyone tell me why there is no free ship upgrade for vice admiral, like there is for the other "decade" levels (10, 20, 30, 40)?

RA ships and single VA(C-Store) ships have the same tier of stats, weapon and console slots. The only difference is that the VA ships have different Bridge Officer layouts and come with a special console/weapon; for a price. The triple-pack ships are supposed to be on par with fleet vessels, with 10 console slots and their own little gimmicks.

This. Actually, I think it was PWE. There used to be one though. You'd get a free Retrofit.

I believe that if there was a vice admiral ship token available only to subscribers when they reach level 50, many silver account players would actually pick up a subscription for one month to level some toons to max level (doable on a rainy weekend), get the ship and the respecc tokens for each rank, and 500 z-points.

So personally i think they could get more money by giving out more to the "onetime" subscribers.
Lotro for instance does this, and i just subscribed for a month...which i would never do in STO right now, because of far too little benefits in my opinion.

There is, but only for Veterans of a certain subscription period (300 days, I think?)

The Respec tokens, character slot, and inventory size upgrades are already worth it:
+60 bank slots (a la carte is max +48, at 1200 Zen)
+30 inventory slots (a la carte is max +36, at 1200 Zen)
+some Boff slots (250 Zen for two)
+10 Account slots (1000 Zen for the same)
Extra character slot (two for 625 Zen)

If you want inventory slots, a 1-month subscription is a fantastic deal, saving around $26.50 for per character. That's not including the Respec tokens, which unfortunately aren't gained retroactively.

My name may say "PWE member", but I will never be.

Alright. Point is, it's not for someone who wants to just get all the benefits of subscription and then drop out, it's for people who have dedicated a good portion of their budget to the game.

yeah you are right, cryptic offers quite a boon for 1 month subscription...however 600 day subscription for a VA token (outdated ship + offers no FSM reduction) is too much in my opinion.

As others have pointed out, there is no fundamental difference in power between the free Rear Admiral ships and the paid C-Store ships. Same 9 consoles, same general availability of Boff powers, same relative hull/shield strength, etc. Only thing C-Store ships traditionally got that was truly unique was a console. Most of those consoles are just gimmicks anyway.

You can play all endgame content just fine in your free Assault Cruiser or Patrol Escort. You can even PvP in them. What really matters is your build and your gear. Even the best endgame gear is all free. C-Store ships exists for vanity, and for allowing you more variety in your gameplay than the six free ships. Those are perfectly valid things to pay for.

Only thing that bothers me is that 10-console ships are all paid for somehow. Either direct C-Store purchases or Fleet Ship Modules. That isn't a gimmick, and does provide an edge. It's not game breakingly important though.
