# 1 Tac Build Plz Help
02-13-2013, 05:38 AM
Apologize in advance for the wall of text. Been to all the Bootcamps and have learned a tremendous amount. TYVM Now I'm trying to adjust my build but have a number of questions for the experts. I appreciate all your input on my Cruiser/Engi build (that turned out great!) but now I need you help please on my Escort/Tac.

1. Unlucky with getting a JHAS I'm in a RA Patrol Escort. Any suggestions for an upgrade? I've been thinking of:
Chimera Destroyer or Fleet Patrol - until I bug or something else comes out, but I really want that 5th Tac Console; so maybe...

Fleet Defiant Retrofit or Fleet Advanced - but both seem to have an useless extra Boff Tac Ensign, when they could really use an Engi Ensign.

2. This is the main point of my thread. I have 2 tacs, but am having trouble with my BOFF set up due to DOFFs.
Eng and Sci are standard:
EPtS1, RSP1
EPtS1

HE1, TSS2

My problem/question involves the tac slots.

For my newbie tac va I have:
TT1, CRF1, CRF2, APO3
TT1, APD1, APO1
4 DHC Polarized Disruptors Acc CrtH
3 Turrets Polarized Disruptors Acc CrtH

For my main Tac, I bought 2 AP Doffs and 1 Engy Wpns Off-reduce CD on Cannon Special Attacks Doff. So my thinking was that with these doffs I only need one copy of APO but then what do I do with my Lt slot? I put in a BO2 with a DBB.
TT1, CRF1, CRF2, APO3
TT1, BO2, APD2
3 DHC Polarized Disruptors Acc CrtH, 1 DBB Pol Disrp Acc CrtH
3 Turrets Polarized Disruptors Acc CrtH

Is this a good idea? Isn't better to have all cannons, and if so what should I replace BO2 with? I almost think I'm better off without the expensive doffs, or maybe I'm not using them right.

For a new tac player I would first focus on all cannons as there will be less to worry about during your attacks. Have an alt boff with your BO2 and swap it out every once in a while and see which you are more comfortable with. It's personal play style and preference.

If you're carrying 2 CRFs then you don't need the doffs that reduce cool down. I would instead go for the conn doffs that reduce CD of attack patterns so you can chain your Omegas faster and/or reuse your Delta sooner. They are very expensive though.

As for ships its all personal preference, they're all good. The fleet defiant and fleet MVAE are excellent choices for dps. If your ultimate goal is the Bug then the boff layout of the fleet patrol is closest so your transition would be minimal. If you feel you may not grind or pay up enough to get the Bug then you may be better off with the fleet defiant or MVAE in order to get the 5 tac consoles slots.

my suggestions

TT1, CRF1, CRF2, APO3
BO1, TT2, APO1

TTs will cycle back to back, just like CRFs will, but the extra benefit in TT2 over the 1 shot benefit in BO2 supports the move to BO1, at least in my mind. And this way, if you ever put a torp on there, you can switch that out to HY1 without having to retrain 2 skills.

APO1 can be replaced by any AP of your choice - which ever works best for you, but with AP doffs to reduce cooldown APO is probably the best.

To soak up one of your extra Tac BO slots (either Ens or Lt), maybe think about throwing a Chrontion Torp up front with Torpedo Spread?

It'll help with your power drain (if that's an issue for you), the proc is quite useful, and you won't be 'wasting' a BO slot.
The first we heard of getting new PvP maps "soon" was in August of 2010. We're consistently told something will be coming with the "next" update. Absolutely nothing has come to PvP since launch.

I think it's finally time Cryptic stopped stringing us along, don't you?

Thank you all for your comments and advice, it's greatly appreciated. And thanks also to my Bootcamp coach, Master Yoda!

I've decided to go with 4 DHC fore, 2 Turrets and a chroniton mine launcher aft. My LtCmdr Tac BOFF set up will be: TT1, DPB CRF2. Cmdr Tac: TT1, APD, CRF2, APO3. Will keep my 2AP Doffs but will drop by Cannon CD Doff.

Time to go test it out now. PVP anyone?
