I currently run phasers on my oddy but have been wanting to be more helpful in teams. Is there a better energy type for my oddy. I am an engineer running 4 beams, 2DBB, quantum fore, and harp'eng aft. Those plasma disruptor hybrids sound cool with 2 procs. Ideas?

Okay, as a longtime cruiser pilot, I can give you some advice:

1) As far as energy damage, if you are looking to be the biggest help to your team, disruptor is probably best for the damage resist debuff. That being said most energy types really are about the same: only the proc differs.

2) Unless you've got a real plan concerning your weapon proc, stay away from the hybrids and try to get ones with as many [Acc] mods on it as possible. You can never go wrong with [Acc].

3) Stay away from DBB on a slow turning cruiser. A 6 - 8 beam broadside will easily be better than that 2 DBB + Array forward arc you've got right now. [1 DBB = about 1.3 beam arrays in practical damage]

NOTE: Energy type consoles do not impact the saucer or Aquarius escort, so don't take that into consideration. However, if you run a point defense turret, you might want to stick with phaser, as that is impacted.

Hope this helps.

You can get away with using any energy weapon type you want on an Odyssey. The only Fed ship that requires phasers to function at optimal is the Dreadnaught (because of the lance.) Just make sure you use all gun weapons of the same energy type rather than running a rainbow boat. They all have only like a 2.5 % chance to get their proc and the benefits get nit-picky. Phaser, disruptor, antiproton, and tetryon are all considered viable weapons to run.

Plasma is great for PVE but really sucks for PVP because everyone running STF’s gets gear to protect against it. Polaron works… mediocre in that the proc doesn’t seem to really do enough in either PVE or PVP on its own.

There are some phased polaron beams you can get through some of the DS9 inspired episodes that mix the effect of both polaron beams and tetryon beams in their proc. Those can be really nice. Only thing is they shoot these pink colored beams.

I honestly don't know why, but I have found it harder to get good DPS out of an Oddy than any other cruiser as of recent. Same build, same everything, switch cruisers DPS goes up twice as much. Though it is the most survivable cruiser I pilot. O.o

I'm basically a new player and at first was not a big fan of disruptors, but I loaded up one of my Odyssey ships with disruptor beams and find it to be very effective.

If you are going to use 2 torps, then 6 beams on auto fire is best.
Stay all one type (Phaser, Disruptor, etc..)
and remember to load up on weapon type consoles to augment your damage type.

One is not as good as the other, Each has its pro's and cons. Only one I do not recommend is Plasma, simply due to a large amount of resistant gear that is out there, if you PVP, for PVE, its fine.

I do run DBB on a couple of cruisers, but not the oddy, she is too slow turning to do any good with them.

Ok so I've got it narrowed down to phasers (any subsystem down is good), disruptors (damage resistance debuff means more ouch from me and my teammates), and antiproton (extra dps with no chance proc is awesome). Keep in mind I'm running beams and will be using appropriate consoles. Suggestions?

I'd like to make my argument for tetryon. With eight or six beams going, that shield proc hits fairly often. I find that it tends to really kill an opponent's shields, opening them up for your team. Additionally, it allows you to damage the other shield facings, which is good.

Rainbow (or, one weapon of each energy type). You'll make *tons* of friends in STFs...

Hybrid types are always nice until you can afford purples. The are quest rewards and have 2 procs
