I was recently listening to the podcast with Al, and he mentioned that Cryptic have carefully thought about options so that smaller fleets could be enjoy the system as well, but not introduce a system with loopholes that people could exploit.
Cryptic's track record with their development of this game indicates that they don't really apply careful thought to what they do.
Al's own track record with mudflation in ship design demonstrates that he himself has limitations in the area of carefully planning the evolution of a system.
Not to be rude, but they can say whatever they want in podcasts. Their actions though speak louder.
