Personally I don't really enjoy the q's all that much anymore. No , not because I die often. Well ... perhaps a little. BUT at least I don't warp out anymore!!!
1.) The 3 maps have been played to death,
2.) Premades rollstomping some unsuspecting pugs (me!), with little thrill either way. (well, perhaps some on TS, amid the laughter of seeing me implode...)
I would like you all to agree with my zaptastic plan, and speed it to it's implemented. Queue evil organ-music (see what I did there?):
Split the queue system, one that allows team, and the other only allowing PUG's. That would not only allow novice/ intermediate players a safe place to practice, but the premades can play against others of equal challenge and all walk away smiling.
Personally, I would have the PvP queue system scrapped all together, in favor of allowing only private challenge matches, and be replaced with at least two maps in each sector that are open, Kerrat-style zones (teaming allowed, not auto-teamed!).
This would add a bit of variety to pvp.
People might complaint, they would hate to have to fly around to get to a match. Beats sitting in sector space waiting for a pop.

preferring karrat over a qued arena or C&H? ya, no.
in karrat, someone is rofl stomping someone else at all times, theres not even teams, balance falls apart when theres no team cohesion, it just devolves into an escort feeding frenzy. its got everything you mentioned not liking about qued pvp, only its exacerbated considerably.
I'd like to start by saying I don't play any other MMO. That being said however, I did like the sound of EVE low and high security space. For those of you not familiar with this, high security space are where NPC's fly in to protect you if you are being unjustly attacked or otherwise. Low security space is a free for all, enter at your own risk, kinda deal.
The latter would be zones (i.e. Deep Space?!!? Which is ALWAYS forbidden... is it even possible to enter Deep Space Zones?) where entering pretty much guarantees either attack or alliances with even unsuspecting folks (sometimes the enemy of my enemy is my friend kinda deal) whilst normal map space continues as is and without much change... for those disinterested in fighting real life folks.
I dunno, I love the game but do find PVP limiting and think an adoption of a system whereby there is more 'risk' and challenges overall would be thrilling.

Ker'rat is awesome for about 2-3 minutes every 45-minutes to an hour. Sometimes 3-5 minutes...
I think ker'rat is also limited...
I do not like the actual pvp system... I'd like to have sectors totally opened to pvp, I'd like to play big battles and wars to have the control of one or more systems.
I don't believe we need to remove anything we currently have in place in order to add something new. Seeing as we have so little as it is. My hope is that they improve the pvp we currently have BEFORE adding anything new. This includes adding an additional 2 or 3 maps. We've been waiting for pvp for 3 years. We should recieve a new map for each year of neglect.
I'd also like to see the consoles rebalanced so that it is respectable to use whatever console suits your playstyle. For example I have the Graviton Generator console but I don't use it because as a Sci Captain it will hold a target for ever 40 seconds. Thats excessive in my opinion. I don't see how Cryptic feels its okay for me to hold someone for over 40 seconds and yet it was necessary to nerf the Ablative Generator on the Intrepid for being "overpowered". Its that kind of crap logic that got us in the pvp mess we're in now.
I like the idea of your "deep space". However I think it might be nice if they set it up similar to guild wars. In Guild Wars 2 its server versus server. So I might make those areas faction versus faction specific. It would be one large map with each faction having a starter area at respective bordering points on the map. A "home map" if you will. So feds of any kind could enter or support each other in the Deep Space open zone area and klingons/romulans could as well. Add in resource controls in the center of the map as well as in bordering areas and faction wide buffs or a weekly point system for maintaining control over a specific area of the deep space map and boom. Awesomeness.
Let no other player discourage you from what you believe you can achieve in PvP. Though you may walk alone through looming shadows of doubt cast upon you by your enemies. Forge your heart with iron casting its shape out of only your pure will to push forward. You will not be denied eventually.
