# 1 which consoles on every ship
02-17-2013, 09:31 PM
I'm working on some basic templates for my ships, and now am looking at consoles. These are the ones that I think I should have on every ship

ENG Neutronium Alloy
ENG RCS Accelerator

SCI Field Generator
SCI Emitter Array

TAC 2x energy weapon boosters
TAC 1x torp/mine boosters

Any remaining slots on the individual ships will get filled with ship-specific consoles

Anything wrong with this list or could be improved on? I am talking about generic everyship consoles not specific consoles for specific purposes.

Those aren't needed on things like a Defiant or any Bird of Prey.

You should focus your tactical consoles on one. Either the energy weapon. OR the kinetic weapon. Most builds would and should choose all tactical consoles stacking the energy weapon since they equip mostly energy weapons in their build. Splitting up your tactical consoles is bad. Also some ships only have 2 tactical consoles. So they can't do what your template suggests. Like a Retrofit Galaxy or a Retrofit Intrepid.

Heck, not even my Galor use them.

OP:

Crit consoles,not only for pvp
Assimilated Module
Zero-Point Energy Conduit
Tachyokinetic Converter (the only reason why you should open lockboxes)

Neutronium Alloy and/or Monotanium Alloy (cruiser)

Field Generator

KDF Plasmonic Leech

There are others but the are very specific. Like Antimatter Spread, Theta Radiation, .....

These. All of these. And given that we have here 5 consoles and you should always be using as many damage boosting tac consoles as your ship allows it gives most fleet escorts 1 console to play with and good cruisers / science ships 2.

More armor and more shields are always better than silly gimmiky consoles. Except for the Grappler console. i like that one. Any that grant what is effectively an extra BO power is worth considering.

Consoles I find to be must haves on any ship I use:

Tactical:
Energy Weapon damage boosting consoles. Max out on these. (I.E. if your ship has 3 tac slots, put 3 of these, 4 tac slots, 4 of these, 2 or fewer tac slots, fly something else)

Engineering:
Neutronium (useful for your everyday meanderings throughout the galaxy, blocks energy and kinetic damage, usually have at least 2 of these)
Monotanium (you know those torps hurt, always pack at least 1 of these)
RCS, but ONLY on very specific ships. For the most part I don't use this console.

Science:
Emitter Arrays (stronger shield heals anyone?)
Field Generators (I usually use these on cruisers only)
Power Insulators (usually escorts only)
Inertial Dampeners (usually escorts only)

Universal Consoles:
Assimilated Module (always use on EVERY ship I have, usually put it in the science console slots, except on science ships, then I put it in the engineering console slots)
Zero-Point Energy Conduit (once unlocked, USE. It gives bonus power and crit, PLUS power insulators)
Tachyo-Kinetic Converter (I don't have one, but if I did, I would probably use it, boosted crit and severity, quite nice)

As gimik consoles, go, I would only use the Bio-Neural Warhead, Isometric Charge, and maaaybe a few others.
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once.
Tired of Wasting EC and Time trying to get Superior Romulan Operative BOffs? Here's a cheap and easy way to get them, with an almost 100% chance of success.

Everybody pooping on RCS... I understand why though, and will only keep it mandatory with the big ships that use broadside attacks.

Field Generator gives straight boost to shield capacity, seems like its pretty useful for surviving alpha strikes.

My understanding of Emitter Array is that it improves the regen rate, so when you do things like balance shields or use Tac Team or dump a Shield Battery they will all perform faster. Seems like it would add more survivability than Generator.

RCS is poopy becuase of the way it gives its bonus. The ships that need it least, gain the most benefit.

Anyways. Armor. Your going to skill for resistances. Always better to skill where you can first. Ok fine done. Now you know that resistances don't simply stack, they diminish. This means that the points added between say 11 and 20, gain you more resistance than say points 21 to 30.

Okay fine what does this mean to you?

It means that that the lower you are on the resistance scale, the more valuable any points added become. So if you've spent a bunch of skill points for resistance, very wise. Points well spent. Now we look at consoles. Okay first console well spent. And you know the rest. Second console not as well spent. Etc. Well there's a third factor and that's Boff skills. They operate the same way. The lower your resistance is to start with, the better the gain. Plus, they aren't static. They often benefit from Aux power.

This simply means that you can gain an equal or possibly greater effect using less consoles in conjunction with Aux powered abilities. If you substitute Aux powered repair consoles in place of armor consoles you can see how this all starts to work together.

And you don't NEED an aux ship to make this work. All you need is to be able to use an aux battery or simply hit your aux preset.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBjs093AjtE this vid shows that concept in action. Vo'Quv carrier, all common gear, Elite STF. No RCS, no Shield Gennies.

The Emitter Array boosts your shield skills, such as Emergency Power to Shields or Transfer Shield Strength. Also notable is that it, unlike the Field Generator, is available as a Romulan console (and thus gaining a heal or plasma fire proc).

Thanks for that tip! I'm WAAAAY behind the curve on the Rommie consoles so I appreciate the share!
