I am considering this - but wanted to get some opinions on it first. Basically is it worth it at the sale price?

I'd say if you got $200 that you could literally throw away, really love Star Trek, and intend on playing the game for a long time no matter what nonsensical thing Cryptic does, I'd say go for it.

Otherwise, save your money. Or use it on something more worthwhile to you.

Don't listen to the haters.

Don't listen to the fanbois either.

Instead do some research and check the math then decide if an LTS is right for you.

Right now the LTS costs $200 bucks. Now go over the Gold/LTS perks and add up what you value.

For example:

Golds get $60 bucks worth of free Zen each year

Do you use a lot of respecs? Golds get 5 free respecs per character as they level. That's a $25 value per character and LTS's get an additional 4 respecs for another $20 bucks you don't have to spend.

Do you like costumes? Theres three vet costume sets worth roughly $15 bucks total.

Want more ships? You get access to three (Chimera Heavy Destroyer (Fed), Peghqu’ Heavy Destroyer (KDF), Daeinos Heavy Destroyer (Rom)) which would sell for $25 bucks each if they were on the C-Store. As well as one of three free shuttles (Captain's Yacht (Fed), DujHod Chariot (KDF) and Commander's Gig (Rom)) valued at $5 bucks

Each character gets a free Android Boff valued at $5 bucks per character.

You also get other stuff listed here, here, and here.

Some people never regret buying their LTS while others will never see any value in buying an LTS.

So be smart. Don't let the prejudices of complete strangers trick you into making a bad financial decision. Only you know what Gold/LTS perks you'll get the most use from and if the value of those perks outweigh the cost of the LTS.

as another lifer I would still recommend lifetime sub while its at sale price, I play STO a lot and still enjoy most of it, I just avoid playing the bits that don't appeal to me so much.
I believe theres still a lot of life in the game and lots more updates on the horizon, some of it will be good I am sure, some of it might not appeal to everyone but while there is this level of support from the devs I am sure the game will be around for a long time to come.

if you are playing STO more then a few hours a week and still enjoy most of it as I do then you will not be sorry to pay the sale price of STO lifetime sub and I am sure you will get your moneys worth for a long time to come.

check here for a full breakdown of the rewards you receive when you go lifetime, you get them all instantly and don't have to wait the 1000 days like monthly subbers do.

and check here for a full breakdown of the value of the rewards compared to the cost of subs.

This. Great advice, and great breakdown!

Once I learned about LTS, many on here recommended I wait for a sale. I did, and I had a little money set aside for it. Once the sale hit, I jumped. Very happy about it.

Now, will I still be happy 6 months from now? 12 months? I hope so! The monthly ZEN will certainly help... Scimitar or Vesta pack, here I come!

I like STO enough that I have set aside some money to buy the LTS.

Unfortunately, I will have to postpone doing so since something rather expensive broke and I need a lot of money to replace it fast... So I will likely buy the LTS the next time it goes on sale which I think happens twice per year.

There are a lot of benefits to getting a LTS so as long as you think you are getting a good value then go for it. sopwithsnipe has already listed many benefits. When you go LTS you get 500 Zen per month; or as stated $60 worth of Zen per year which is great for just buying stuff even if it is just master keys. Paying $200 to get $60 worth of Zen per year is a 30% return on your "investment". That means after 40 months you will get back $200 worth of Zen; thus break even. Will the game last another 40 months? Hard to say. But keep in mind this is on top of the other benefits you get.

If you are not sure, then you can just subscribe to the game for 1 month which provides it's own benefits. You will get 500 Zen for paying $15 to sub for one month. You also get the following which are permanent even after you cancel your one month subscription:

- Additional Toon Slot
- Respec token you received when your level up to the next rank when subscribed. Max level toons gets nothing 'cuz they can't level up anymore.
- 6 additional bank / inventory slots for each rank. You will have 90 slots instead of 60 slots at max level. This is separate from the slots you buy using Zen.
- 4 additional Boff slots.
- Account Bank with 20 slots

Not sure if you get any additional ship slots.

I started a one month subscription just a few days before the LTS went on sale 'cuz I wanted the extra bank / inventory slots. Had I known about the sale I would not have subscribed. Anyway, that doesn't change the fact that I need to redirect the money I put aside for the LTS towards something more urgent.

I like your math. For someone with one character it will take a little over a year to get back the base value of a sale LTS. But someone like me with 20+ characters ends up ahead of the curve.

It depends, if you often see yourself playing this game, don't mind the changes, and would like to play as a liberated Borg, along with getting the goodies, by all means take advantage of the 200 dollar sale. Just don't sacrifice your energy bill or grocery for the month for it.

However; if you see yourself only playing casually, logging in here and there, or see yourself not playing in the long run, then don't bother. The 500 zen a month stipend is not even worth it either.

If you spend money on something, it is by definition not free. Using the term "free" in this manner reeks of marketing weasel wording.
