Try running as administrator....problem should go bye bye.

Issue for a couple of ppls with Win7 and running the application with admin rights fixed the issue. Did you install the application in the default locations? Thats another sticker for permissions.

Sadly I don't have access to internal error strings or codes, but from what your describing I would finger permissions or data blockage.

Temp disable your antivirus, firewall, and make absolutely sure your running the launcher/app with top level admin rights.

If it still fails I am afraid you'll need to wait a bit for a Cryptic dev to wake up and help you out. )

best of luck

One last suggestion, UNINSTALL STO and Re-Install again ...but install it with ADMIN rights. Permissions could also get messed up during install even if you used default settings if your rights are to low in some cases.

I had the same issue, but a reinstall of STO did not solve it. I found the following...

100120 03:37:41 1 MasterControlProgram[1]: OLE failed to initialize: 1
100120 03:37:41 2 MasterControlProgram[1]: Shutting down from fatal error "OLE failed to initialize: 1"

I tracked it down to the parental control software Net Nanny by Content Watch. Everything started working after I uninstalled the software. The launcher would still not run when the Net Nanny was only disabled. I even put the launcher in as an application exception to the parental contol, but still the launcher crashed each time. This is a problem since I need the parental controls for my kids.

Im with lyloo. Same problem with net nanny. Is there anyway to fix it cryptic? There are lots of people who have net nanny, and can't uninstall it, because they have children. This doesn't seem like a hard fix.

Unfortunately there is no simple way to fix this. The offending application is hooking into our code before startup and altering the parameters we need for the windows COM system (the MSHTML frame is shown using an OLE embedding).
