# 1 The Elua And Bad Reviews?
03-05-2013, 09:42 AM
I have noticed on the forums that many users simply don't understand the ELUA for the foundry. It really goes from one end of the spectrum to the other. Some feel that all canon characters and material are fair game ( I know of at least one foundry series with all of the cast of TNG portrayed) all the way down to those who think you are not even allowed to name a ship Enterprise in a foundry mission (despite the fact that the original series enterprise is a foundry asset). The ELUA mainly is trying to stop you from addig content from sources that Cryptic has no license, and secondly to stop you from creating the likeness of an actor who would want to be paid for their appearance. My question to the authors out there is have you been unfairly reviewed for publishing a mission that was in the bounds of the EULA but someone thought was breaking the TOS for the foundry?

So far no complaints on my missions. I think your interpretation of the EULA is essential correct, the main points being no actor's likenesses and don't bring in stuff for which Cryptic does not have the licenses.

I have a couple missions involving canon characters. In my KDF mission cluster you get to play as the three TOS Klingon captains on the holodeck, but they are never depicted visually. There is also a canon character in my latest mission. He's not named and looks nothing like the actor, plus really it's only your boff speculating that it might be a canon character in dialogue. So I think it avoids the EULA restrictions.

There are no shortage of aspects to which the general population is ignorant about the Foundry. You can try and educate players where you can, but mostly the best you can do is ignore them and move on.

Your interpretation is consistent with what I've heard the devs say so unless someone actually manages to get your mission unfairly pulled, I wouldn't worry about it.

In my current project I do have a cameo by a certain cardassian. My understanding is that when an actor wears that much makeup they no longer resemble the actor who portrayed them. At least that is how I rememer Bran flakes or one of the devs saying, I know there will be those who disagree with my understanding.

This from the EULA faq sticky:

6. I know we cannot portray actors, but what about characters who were in costumes and make-up and you cannot tell who the actor was?

Nothing in the EULA prevents this. Please refer to the EULA for a list of Star Trek Properties

Cant have more proof than that. Although I don't think Worf is a foundry asset.
