I strongly recommend the fleet support cruiser instead of the fleet advanced heavy cruiser. You sacrifice a tiny bit of damage potential in favour of more versatility and science options (well worth it).
I have escorts, destroyers, cruisers. My engineer flies a cruiser, it will never be primary a damage dealer, you are fooling yourself if you think your primary job is to do damage. So if you don't want to tank or support as your primary function, you dump the cruiser.
Well when you pick your character type it tells you that engineers support and heal damage, so what you are saying is you picked a character that does what you don't want to do?
Might as well dump the cruiser and take an escort, the cruiser is a support and tank ship.
From the ingame descriptions of the character types at the Character Creation screen:
Survivability, support generators, and controlling the paths of enemy advance with field works. The Engineering Officer can withstand the most damage by improving the performance of their own ships, while supporting his away team with power generators or by bottlenecking the enemy's advance with defensive minefields. The Engineer's own combat effectiveness is improved by modifications to their firearms or support fire from fabricated turrets and drones.
Science Officers protect their ship and crew by weakening or incapacitating the enemy over time, creating energy fields that damage or hinder, and healing their away team from such effects. The Science Officer has the greatest potential to quickly react to a chaotic combat situation through direct enemy holds, weakening an enemy group's combat strength or resistance, or responding to an enemy attack by quickly healing damage. Science Officers' combat effectiveness depends on their versatility.
Combat damage, stealth recon, and squad tactics. The Tactical Officer can deliver damage in the widest variety of methods, while supporting his away team by drawing off enemy threat or bolstering their combat effectiveness with tactics and squad command.
I see nothing that says Engineers are healers. Only one description (directly) mentions healing and only two (directly) mentions support.
My Engineer in a Cruiser uses the Fleet Assault Cruiser Refit. Average DPS is 7,413.0 and the highest DPS in Infected Space Elite was 8,150.77. And I was not using an Auxiliary to Battery build.
First.. can u say to me how good is fleet assault cruiser retrofit, is it any good and thing like that... and cruiser have 2 abilities which can helo teammates.... extend shield reduce damage for 30 % which is quite helpfull...also extend shield is shield heal which can use both on you or ally..... But i am curious about fleet assault cruisers...
The Fleet Assault Cruiser Refit is the Fleet Assault Cruiser. There is not a separate one.
There are many possibilities one can use with it, including team healing. It just doesn't have the maneuverability that some would like. For a team healer build, I would go for Engineer Boff slots has this:
Lt Eng: Emergency Power to Weapons I, Emergency Power to Shields II
Cmd Eng: Emergency Power to Weapons I, Emergency Power to Shields II, Extend Shields II, Auxiliary to Structural Integrity Field III
or if you have them and a desire to use them, with 3 Damage Control Officers to reduce the recharge of your Emergency Power to Subsystem abilities:
Lt Eng: Emergency Power to Weapons I, Extend Shields I
Cmd Eng: Emergency Power to Shields I, Extend Shields I, Auxiliary to Structural Integrity Field II, Auxiliary to Structural Integrity Field III
The second one would give you 100% uptime on healing and protecting your teammates with the Engineering Bridge Officers. And if you wish, you can switch around the Extend Shields and Auxiliary to Structural Integrity Field abilities. The reason I include Emergency Power to Weapons is due to the power drain from Beam Arrays.
My primary build is not setup for healing, but I do have an alternate Engineering Slotting for it. And I place Emergency Power to Weapon above Emergency Power to Shields and still have my Shield Power at a (modified) 100:
Lt Eng: Emergency Power to Shields I, Emergency Power to Weapons II
Cmd Eng: Emergency Power to Shields I, Emergency Power to Weapons II, Auxiliary to Structural Integrity Field II, Auxiliary to Structural Integrity Field III
The Lt Eng has Extend Shields II, and Auxiliary to Structual Integrity Field III trained for easy swapping to a team healer mode, which some missions really benefit from (i.e. Cure Space while on Kang duty).
The Fleet Assault Cruiser is really geared more to be a DPS/Tank; but it can be easily setup as a healer, but there are other Cruisers more capable as a healboat.
