As the title says. This would reduce the amount of newcomers insta popping the moment they enter the arenas. The newcomers would become less of a burden to the team and also they would survive long enough to see the enjoyment of pvp.
We want more people to join pvp so thought this would be a good start to reduce the learning curve.
Nice idea stealing naz kk
Really tho naz its really a good idea, why? because
1. It removes or tightens a gap between newbies which don't know about this Spacebar + Bind Distribute_Shields trick now till at least 6 months of this first learning curve.
2. If you totally remove the feature as a whole it opens up new complexity to PvP meaning you would have to manually distribute your shields to the left and right etc all manually.
But for the instapopping part, thats partly the reason people get insta-vaped in arenas. Unfortunately it comes back to the balancing part as well again, EptS. 99% of the instapop noobs dont even run it, because they dont know this ability is at least 100+% more valuable then their equally ranked counterparts (EptE, EptW, EptA)
How many times do i still see so called 'full out glass cannon' escorts running 2x EptW lol.
They get vaped instantly, and the EptW doesn't give enough of a damage boost to actually make it worthwhile ditching EptS.

If all that is getting them killed is not the in game auto distribution... then forcing them to have isn't going to save them.
The devs already gave them the gift of tac team... if they can't figure it out then truly there is nothing that can save them from my cannons or yours Naz.
Thats exactly it, someone distributin their shields but picking the wrong abilities anyway (EptE instead of EptS) will be popped anyway, but combine that and EptS for instance will make a massive mount of difference, someone using EptS3 and not distributing still get instavaped by most good escorts/spikers so its always a combo of different aspects.
Giving the current distribute shields an autofire toggle is something I'd personally appreciate because as an active command it can step on or be stepped on by other abilities when I'm in a sweaty panic. I know that the solution is to bind everything to 3 keys instead of 2 like I have it now and pace my activations but that's hard when my face is lonely for my keyboard and I'm panicking from being focused.
I'm only half kidding. I do lose activations. Until STO can keep up with activations it's fair to ask that this crucial ability be given an auto feature.
Turning it off and micromanaging your facings will still be a more effective option if you can spare the neurons.
_______________ 4/4 Z-Store KDF Specific Bugs fixed! Thank you from the bottom of my wallet! I'm going to go buy some Zen points for a rainy day. Here's another batch about visuals.
Btw, wouldnt auto distro just make shield facing mechanics obsolete ? Wouldn't it also make torpedoes useless ?
Except for the DHC / BO spikes, everything else would have just need to eat to whole shield pool. So might as well remove the facing and have just shield hps, so its equal across all weapon types.
I would rather prefer that manual distro lasts longer and is faster.
I don't think I could see the harm if you could toggle the Distribute Shield Button(s) to auto (IE green box) Where they would activate on their own every X seconds after the first Distribute (Kind of like how firing weapons works).
Make it maybe a tad slower then a Key bind so that way Key binding is still the fastest way to handle it? Just a thought.
You think that your beta test was bad?

i believe once u press redistribute or reinforce one side, ur shields should continuously pump to balance or that face until toggled off. make it a toggle.
and do note this is diff than tac team, tac team actively reinforces sides takin dmg, redistribute simply balances all side.
frankly this would help skilled attackers, who could see which face is being reinforced and attack from another side
making shield distribution a toggle power seems a no brainer. check sfc games too see examples
I'm literally always moving, so it's basically automatic.
Except it's only automatic for me, and anyone like me, who understands this basic game mechanic and how to bind it.
This is just a very tiny equalizer to give the average player a leg up on one of the most basic and fundamental mitigation mechanics in the game.
But if you do it manually, there is still room for human error, either from pvp stress situation or simply ****up.
Bad players will die anyway, because of the massive spikes which the system won't be able to compensate even with auto distro, simply because the stupid DHCs hit so hard. What it would actually do, is to gimp sustained dps (aka beams) even more and make torpedoes even less usefull than now for ships without other spikes.
