wow this is pathetic, i thought i would come on the forum to get info about stuff, but this is depressing.

neuter all the interesting stuff just so that more dakka is the only tactic? i didnt think it was that bad...

on the bright side, grav well is still a good way to hurt borg gates.

I'm a new player (few months) and read how Tykens and Gravity Well weren't worth it.

So I went with Tachyon Beam. Yesterday I read a thread how a DOFF slotted Tractor Beam drains shields more. So...yeah....

Yeah, on my sci, I gave up on Tykens. I have stuck with my Grav Well3 however. There are a lot of bonuses that I use that keeps it pretty nasty. See build below.

http://www.stoacademy.com/tools/skil...averbuild_2596

Notes: below

This is the setup that I have on my Sci.character. This build. This is a great all around build for damage, crown control and healing. The orb weaver is fairly maneuverable, especially with combat engines and an RCS console. This allows you to use two dual beam banks in the front. which will give your fire-at-will some bite. There are a couple other factors that make this build awesome...

The EP2AUX should be used before using any of the science skills other than science team. Aux power gives an exponential boost to GravW, HazEm and TSS. If not available, you can use the red matter capacitor or Aux battery for boost. This allows you to keep your weapons and shield power up the rest of the time to increase damage output.

Your Gravity Well will be a big factor here. Grav Well3 is nasty. Especially when you have so many bonuses to it. There are two things that improve your Grav Well. Graviton Generators and Particle Generators.

Max skill points to Graviton and Particle Gen
Reman Deflector - 39.4 to Graviton Gen
2nd pc Reman set - 17.5 to particle Gen/ Bonus to High Yield torps
(Best to start with Engines and Deflector for reman set)
Assimilated Module - 23 Graviton Gen
Graviton Generator console - 26.1 to Graviton Gen
Particle Generator console - 26.1 to Particle Gen

A Gravimetric Doff will create additional Grav Wells resulting in 2-5 grav wells.
Maintenance Eng reduces cooldown on Eng Team
Maintenance Eng2 improves heals upon using EP2Aux skill
Conn Ofcr. - Reduces cooldown on TacTeam.
Nurse2 - Improves Crew Health(like BioFunction Monitor)

GW3 with mid-level AUX will kill stuff if you strip their shields and stop them from moving. Target Shields Subsystem works most of the time for the former, Phased Polaron weapons will also disable/drain the enemy subsystems pretty reliably if you can get your proc rate up. Chroniton Flux torpedo and Tractor Beam will keep them from moving too far too fast. Biggest problem is with stuff that has a lot of HP, it just takes a long time to kill them.

Actually the thing I have found about Sci is that it is great for killing groups but awful against a single target. If you can get a bunch of them in a gravity well, you can BFaW and use your torp splash damage to get a warp then they cascade. Against a single target you have to shoot it to death without the BFaW bonus, which can take a couple of tries.

My tact KDF captain in the mirror carrier actually kills stuff faster with the same techniques, and he has no points in sci or aux except the ship and set bonuses. Lock down the target, TSS, BFaW, and send some BoP pets on the target, dies quick when he's throwing APA/FOMM and disruptors to lower their resists

A well timed bump for this thread. With LoR coming, I was thinking about going with Science for my Romulan. I had some questions before I did, though. Most of them have been answered here and it seems my concern has been substantiated. Science just isn't really an option anymore.

Well, I already have 2 Tactical captains. I guess I will go with another Engineer, for 2 of each. Not as boring as Tactical and can still be made useful.

It would be nice to hear from them why they seem to be killing off a class. God forbid someone does damage with something other than a Dual Heavy Cannon.

But hey on the bright side anyone flying a warbird gets all the goodies that make science captains halfway worthwhile on a team, at no cost regardless of class, and improved/hybridized versions of all those goodies to boot! So, now you don't even have to be a science captain to get any of the table scraps that make science captains halfway decent.

Except subnuke, for all the good in PvE that is.
Somebody getting uppity about canon? No problem! Just take a deep breath, and repeat after me:

Could be worse. You could be an engineer.

Subnuke DOES work guys...maybe it's not as effective as before but it still works.

And I do agree that Tykens is castrated.
NO to ARC...Keep it in Beta
