# 1 Sci Power Questions...
03-02-2013, 11:33 PM
I'm trying to build a slowing and debuffing ship, using photonic shockwave along with a nadeon detonator and some photonic officer doffs.

Now as everyone knows sci does lousy damage but I want to try to maximize my damage and I'm wondering which would be better? PSW I and GW III or PSW III and GW I?

Honestly, neither one does enough damage to worry about the difference.

In my experience, GW is far more useful than PSW for PVE, so I would use GW3.

I'd probably avoid PSW and Nadeon. Against a tough target, they are somewhat lacking. Against mass targets, all you've done is scatter them to the winds. For some players, this can be as annoying as someone using TBR or the MACO Grav beam in STFs.

For mass targets, why not try dropping a GW1 then TKR3 or vice versa (there's a DOff available to reduce the global CD on deflector abilities). The GW lumps them together (and also drops their speed/defence) while the TKR reduces their firepower and regens. If you also slot in the appropriate DOff, you can have the GW or TKR 'spawn' copies of themselves (which unfortunately count towards the global deflector CD, just FYI) for more fun.

Single targets can be hit with an ES. Used on a Vesta with say, dual AUX DHCs plus a 'normal' DHC, this can allow you to use CRF1 at 125+/125+ WEP/AUX power levels. In some situations, this allows you to exceed the typical tac/escort's DPS. It's an old trick that some sci-escorts use (Prometheus Retrofit?) and works even better with the new Vesta class vessels. Or slot in a DBB and make use of Subsys Targeting (which does benefit from higher WEP power levels) to drop something important at the right time.

GW to hold them, TKR & ES to drain them, Subsys Targeting to drop their shields or tractor abilities then 125/125 WEP/AUX power level + cannons to blow them away.

There are other DOffs you might want to look at too, particular the one that affects the Sensor Scan ability.

Reason I wanted to try what I want to try is because well, Sci powers maye not do a whole lot of damage but at least I could spit the shockwaves out rapidly with a few photonic boffs.

So if I can't damage I can at least CC a bit and all.
