How much of a difference is there between the two tiers of set?
Thanks

Try STOwiki.org, search for "Borg set" to start... What it does not tell you is the specs, there is generally not a big difference.

General recommendations is if you have a partial set, then it's just best to complete the set. If you are starting from scratch (no existing pieces yet) then go for the Mark XII.

The pieces won't gain the additional powers if you mix components of different Mark levels.

Hope that helps.

Actually, I'd recommend you stick with the Mk XI as a good balance between capabilities and cost, until you gather the resources and decide for yourself as to whether you want to invest in the Mk XII set.

The ground sets I'd recommend going Mk XII with mostly because the X and XI sets don't offer the full costume unlocks, however.

I snagged a mark 10 of each set, but just one on each of three different characters to test them. I haven't upgraded to the mark 11 or 12 yet to know how big the difference is in practice, but I can say mark 10 is good enough for lite hive ground with optionals =).

The omega mark 10 is garbage, though I've heard people saying the mark 12 is great. Of the three this is the only one that is inferior in performance to the jem haddar set you can get for free from missions.

Maco mark 10 has been amazing, the damage in particular is stellar, not just on borg it rips salt vampires to pieces. Pair it with a nice pulsewave or melee weapon for when enemies get close.

The honor guard mark 10 is hands down, by far and away the best of the bunch. Good lord this thing is borderline in need of a nerf. I've landed crits on salt vampire alphas for over 700 damage with an engineer (so no tac officer buffs/debuffs from me but might have been some from teammates, I dunno). And the grenade it uses as it's second attack have a huge radius and deal about 85% of a minions health in one go. They also don't always cause aggro when you launch, only when they go off. The self heal power is very potent and recharges quick enough, but really the bonus health and very high resists on the armor are what make this one shine. Oh and the self heal removes holds =)

As I understand it, the bonuses increase as the set Mk increases. Dunno how much of a difference this is in practice, but for myself, I waited until I hit T5 and bought all Mk XII stuff, which was a VERY nice upgrade from the Aegis set, let me tell you.

The XII set increases your hull strength significantly and makes bonuses and crit more potent. The hull increase alone was worth it imo, especially if your flying an escort. (i.e. Fleet Defiant goes from 33,000 to 45, 521+ with XII set as oppose to 45, 151 with XI kit!). Throw TT in there along with appropriate shield buffs and yeah, confuses the heck out of the klingons themselves when it takes six of them a while to blow me up - lol.

I know some ppl say to use the MACO shields with the two piece Borg but I've grown to appreciate the bonus you get from using the Borg tractor beam coupled with cutting beam... I have taken out many a ship with this combo alone. If your at the end of the rep system just go for the XII stuff.

Ah I see you're asking space not ground, my bad.

One recommendation: If you fill your romulan rep you get a gift of 32,000 dilithium and 750 romulan marks

If you're like me and see nothing worth buying in the romulan rep system other than the hyper plasma turn all the marks to dilithium and use it plus the 32k bonus to buy omega gear.

I know a few people who had stopped grinding romulan rep, then heard about the end gift and finished it off just for this. Works out to a pretty good exchange rate of EC to Dil when you factor in the smaller bonus dil you get for each reputation project too.

What gift?

I have stopped but will finish it off if only for the passives. The rom marks are so ridiculously few and far between for the grind in comparison to Omega marks.

the differences between X vs XI and XI vs XII are little. Unless you want the best set (may be because you want to play pvp), the mk XI is good enough for everything (and do not cost too much)... and may be also the mk X (but I have never tried it).

I played long pve using the mk XI and changed to mk XII just to start playing pvp as a premade

When you complete the tier 5 mission on New Romulus you get 32,000 dilithium and 750 romulan marks. I (and several others I know) have just turned all of the 750 romulan marks into dilithium and spent it on our fleets and omega gear.

As for earning romulan marks, run mine trap. Earn double the marks of any other romulan event, plus at least 35 fleet marks at the same time.
