Which would you pick for a Science Officer for Elites, and why?

Well first of all the recluse and jem dread cost 800 lobi, the atrox is available for much cheaper, as it only costs 2500zen. So these two types are not really comparable regaring the price to obtain them.
To get to 800 lobis you will have to open about 160 lockboxes on average which is about 16k zen so about 6 times the cost.

If you ask me the jem dread is the best of those three if it comes to dmg, but the recluse is much more versatile and well in the end more suited to a sci but it all depends on what your goals are ingame. If you just want to do loads of dmg, sci isnt the best role to start with but since you are sci I assume you're not soley interessted in dps and therefore going recluse is the best choise whenever money is of no concern.

Jem dread would be a better PVE carrier for DPS. Recluse works best as dedicated healer or sci support role. Unfortunatley healing/sci is not really needed for elite STFs, only really needed in PVP and select situations in pve but rarely. Atrox also is mainly for healing/sci, just not quite as good a healer as the Recluse.

Don't be an idiot, get the Jem Dread. Battleship (yes, BATTLESHIP not Cruiser) with Carrier Capability, you can blow Atrox out the friggen water. (Never lost to an Atrox in my Dread)

as johnsteward said atrox is only 2.5k zen and the jem dread is 800lobi cristals. the jem dread is much much better then the atrox or recluse.
higher hull, one extra weap slot, more tactical consoles (which means more dps), the shield is better then the atrox but lower then the recluse - not with much, higher turn rate - though not with much, more crew, more bonus power.
recluse
atrox
dread

ps: if you want to get a lobi ship is faster if you farm for EC and buy it from the exchange, rather than open boxes and hoping for any luck.

JHDC is the highest damage, and damage is almost always more useful in STFs.

65 to 70m in EC is a bit cheaper than 2500 zen though.

The Dreadnaught for PvE. I really don't even think it's close. The Dreadnaught is the most powerful PvE ship in the game with a proper layout and a good captain.

If you have your heart set on using beams instead of DHCs & Torps, the Recluse.

Whether it's cheaper depends on how many characters you expect to use the ship on, though.

2500zen*104=260.000 dil, at current exchange rates.
260.000/2000= 130 times handing in 5 contraband.
130*5= 650 contraband.
650*50.000ec= 32,5 mil ec, total.

If you use the ship on 2 characters you're even, if you have more (hint: including fed-alligned Romulans), you'll be better off. Purely in terms of price.

I have or want neither of these ships, mind you, but if I were to buy one, I'd go for the Atrox, as I could use it on my 4-5 different characters accessing fed shipstores. Also, it's reclaimable.
