it's why i carry TSS on my kumari (forget which of the three i'm running I got all three, that's just the one i remember) I got Emergency power to shields for myself, and reverse shield polarity. i also got hazard emitters and engineering team. if someones in need of them and within my range and im not currently in dire need of them i'll toss them onto someone else.

I always try to keep the tanking ship alive. Because I know when that ship pops, my ship will pop 10 secs later. Then there are those who think they'll need those heals for themselves, which is pretty dumb. If a cruiser can't survive it solo, then there's little chance of an escort managing to do it.

Forget to mention, but happened several time, in several stf, on several character. I'm full shield/hull, and someone use engi/sci team on me, while someone else is badly hurt.
It seems some people have good intentions, but simply fail.

You're most likely in a group comprised entirely of DPS. They're not going to heal you because they can't without neglecting THEIR job.

Group with a healer if you want heals; otherwise you're going to be on your own, because the DPS's job is to pump out as much damage as he can, and sparing even one button click to heal you means he's not doing his job.

Not always possible in a pug. Besides, spider-tanking isn't that problematic.

Well, yes; but that's the nature of PUGs. If you found yourself in a group of five healers, would you complain one of them wasn't doing enough DPS?

eh, sometimes happens when people arent fully paying attention and misclick, or push the wrong Fkey should they be using those to target their allies.

What I run into, in any scenereo, is that STO does not differentiate active targets. There needs to be two, not one, target panels - one for ally, one for enemy. It would also help if the friendly target selection would be automatic as well; closest, under fire, most damaged.
If I switch to an ally, my weapons stop firing at the hostile target so I can throw that buff.

Most of the time they're far out of range, as well. In STFs I typically run spawn screen (probes, BoPs) heading away from the primary battle to prevent the objective from being ruined because of inattentive gun bunnies.

I'll throw buffs if I'm in range and I'm not in the thick of keeping my own vessel intact, but I'm not the fast-twitch kinda guy so I often miss an ally taking damage... and against some of those STF mobs someone can go from 100% to wreck in a second, or less so my ability to aid them is rather superfluous.

It's a rare day that anybody can wrest my target's attention away from me, and an even rarer day that I ever get exploded.

The problem is that tanking damage is not only completely and utterly thankless, it also seems to be a solo sport in most people's opinion. I can be the only person taking damage for minutes at a time, and nobody will ever assist me no matter how battered my shields and hull get. All you scort drivers with tactical teams and spare hazard emitters? Yeah. Those are delicious, and if you're not taking any damage then give them to somebody who is.

Basically I'm thinking to myself... Why bother being The Guy for the team, if nobody will thank me for it nor help me in any way. Is there an ethical problem with taking off my threat generation console and staying far back from the fight, so all those people who refused to help me when I was taking the hits get to explode because nobody is taking hits for them anymore? Should I feel bad for wanting to see people get violently educated as to why it's better for them if they keep the meatshield alive?

well I had my vesta specced for dps cc and tanking (meaning 6 threat control points, and a plus threat console), and I was managing it very very well. however I never ever got any help, while I probably did the best dps in the group (always parsed, and out of dozens of stfs probably 5% would have someone equal or better than me at dps accounting for the inaccuracy of parsers).

so now I dropped all of them threat generating things, I load my dps carefree, and watch the others explode. do I lose time? yes, do I care? no, I could defend against that stuff alone, while dealing dps, they should learn to do one too

While some people don't convey the thanks (especially if you are in the thick of things), I think part of this problem is because how the game is now.

With the game itself, Tanking really died out when they changed the skill tree and made it mandatory you to put points in a skill that only increases your survivability by a small margin.

With the social aspect, when the game went F2P and the focus became more of instant gratification, and socializing in groups became nonexistant (unless you knew those people). And that is pretty much why nobody really talks in team chat anymore outside of complaining, calling strategies, or simply saying GG or GJ.

So all in all, the changes really were not all a good thing. And personally, I would like some of the old way to return, like how people got to socialize by doing the Old STFs by manually getting groups and enduring hours of play. You got to know and trust those people.
