Old? It's about 4-6 months old. It's the same age as the Champion Online engine, which was brand new for that game. Memory allocation and management always matters, always.

Lol, its nice to get a reply on that.
Anywho, those were my three cents.
The patcher no longer works on my end, it goes so far as to say "patching" but nothing is registering in the network graph.

Now, I have attempted to run sto on XP in VirtualBox, with ubuntu karmic as my host,
It is a flawless install too.

One difference is the login/web page, which holds more details about sto, the wine install i mentioned previously just showed a cryptic webpage.

Running it in vbox with 4gb and just one proc it seemed to progress around 20-30% further than the wine attempt.

But still my graphics card is unrecognised, which is expected in a vritual machine, i suppose
Well you saved me time by testing Virtual Box. May have to use VMWare for the time being :-S

On Debian "testing" with Wine wine-1.1.36-83-gc7ccf24 also got memTrackValidateHeap: Infinite loop walking heap, last walked was 2ac0130 @ the atari logo

Installed a lot stuff from winetricks but I don't think it's a nonfound dll error but the game itself has problems.

Few lines:

Loading PetContactList Defs...
Loading PetContactList... done (11 PetContactList). (0.01)
done (11 PetContactList). (0.01)
WorldLibZone startup...
Unloading map...memTrackValidateHeap: Infinite loop walking heap, last walked was 2ac0130
memTrackValidateHeap: Infinite loop walking heap, last walked was 2ac0130
memTrackValidateHeap: Infinite loop walking heap, last walked was 2ac0130
memTrackValidateHeap: Infinite loop walking heap, last walked was 2ac0130
Heap validation failed on memTrackValidateHeap()
2010-01-16 21:47:31 PROGRAM ASSERT OCCURRED! heapValidateAll()

Tried with setting options in the launcher like full screen, quick start, low and default options but no luck

Is anyone having the issue where it makes you patch all 10 gigs every patch release?

We continue to actively develop the engine that powers both games, so its only as old as the last patch ;-)

That gives us some hope! Did you actually talk to someone about all of us linux users? We number well into the teens, and we want to play too!
