And that's the jist of the problem.

This is a problem that was reported during closed beta and is even known about in CO. Load 190.62 and the ground game performs great. Load anything newer than that and the ground game goes to pot by way of comparison. The space game sees little to no difference.

It really ticks me off that there is no word of development about whether this is going to get looked at before STO goes Live. I play other games that specifically benefit from newer drivers (specifically Fallout 3), and I don't want to be switching driver back and forth.

Personally, this issue will determine whether I continue to play this game after 30 days.

They've known about this problem since way before closed beta. It affects Champions Online as well.

It only affects the ground portion of the game.

Instead of putting all their resources into fixing this, they've basically just sent an email to Nvidia asking them to fix it. What they don't realize is that they are literally losing hundreds of thousands, or millions of dollars to people who play this game with the proper specs, experience the stuttering/sluggishness, then don't bother to subscribe after the first free month is over.

Just want to add that my 9800GX2 card studdered all the way through closed beta. I finally decided to go backwards to 190.62 and can confirm the misery which was ground missions and starbases has vanished and left me with a much better gaming experience.

My rig is Win7 64 bit, 9800GX2, 4 gig RAM, 2.5 Quad core - running max settings now with no lag/studder.

I have a 260m gtx and I get the stuttering too. Does anyone know what driver I should use? I can only find the newest one on their site, and well I did find some older ones like this one http://www.nvidia.com/object/noteboo...6.81_whql.html which is supposed to work but it said it couldn't find my gpu, even though the newest one works. Does anyone know what the best version for geforce mobiles are and where I can get it?

Just to chime in...

Win7 64 bit, 4gb memory, core i5 processor.

Running a nvidia gtx275 with the latest driver 195.62. The space game runs awesome on max graphics but I get chop and stutter on ground missions even with the graphics fairly low. Haven't tried reverting to old drivers yet, I will update if that changes anything.

Q9550 processor - 2 GTX260 in SLI, Win7, 8g ram.

I've tried a bunch of different drivers suggested here and I'm getting the crazy hitching in space and ground.

SLI is a different beast, and I don't remember the specific info for fixing the issue with that.

On the other hand, 190.62 drivers for NVIDIA owners willl remove the hitching/stuttering in ground missions for those running a single card. Space has always been smooth and I used to regularly keep up to date with my video drivers.

For reference:
Core i7 920
6GB Triple Channel RAM
Windows 7 x64
GTX 275

Furthermore this also corrected the issues I had with CO.

So to recap: Revert to the 190.62 Drivers if you run a NVIDIA card and have odd hitching/stuttering problems with the ground missions for STO.

Vista x64
4gb ram
GF 8800 GTS
Core Quad 6600
