Hehe, last weeks "buff cruisers" thread made me take my ody out for a spin to test some things out. While not the question you asked, I happened to get some comparative DPS numbers out of the experience. Note that I am a sci and also not a full time cruiser pilot anymore (I moved on to my carrier the moment she became available)
All test were run with a Sci Ody. I have the 3 pack, but IMO the Sci Ody is the best "hybrid" Ody. You will get likely a bit more dps out of the Tac version, but I didn't want to have to stop at space dock every other test to swap out ships.
2xA2B build, single cannons, rommie 3pc weapons set, tac focus got me 6500 dps in ESTF.
2xA2B build, single cannons, yadda yadda with an eng focus = 6000 dps, but all I got was EWP and RSP out of the deal... and had to work like hell to get that high of dps with EWP, not like just flying about in "escort mode"... useful if maybe I needed just a hair more surviability
2xA2B Sci mode same weapons was about 5500, but I had a GW to toss around... just really lacked follow up. Still, an ody in sci mode feels better then most sci ships... Not good ones but there are some bad sci ships out there... I still weep for my D'Kyr...
No A2B tank mode same weapons - between 4500 to 5500, but I could actually eat invisitorps and with threat consoles had mobs on me most of the time.
Tank mode, with beams - I don't know, I didn't finish the test. It was so so so so bad I flew off and swapped weapons out. Trying to blow a generator in KASE, parked broadside, cycling skills like mad... Yeah... I was there forever.
In the end, the answer was clear to me. Cruisers are fine. Beams are horribly broken.
Let me give a little more detail on my question. I stated it the way I did to try and avoid the 27 page thread where every answer is: "well it depends, if you build it this way...but then if you switch out this... or if you factor in the x squared algorithms on a second tuesday after a half moon..."
But I can see I wasn't being fair. lol. So...
Let's say I am using and operations oddy, setting up for a healer build. Right now at the end of a Pvp match I can average between 100K dps to 150K dps. (not in an oddy; getting ready to buy one).
When I compare mine with the others on my team, that looks fairly depressing. But then I realized that escorts, cruisers, and sci ships serve different purposes and therefor will score more or less dps accordingly. So when trying to judge my performance at the end of a match based on dps, I can't do it by comparing to other ships. I have to do it based on whether or not i am averaging appropriatly for my class of ship. Does that make sense?
Also, I was just wondering what BOFF abilities you would equip on a healer, incase there were some I hadn't thought about. Like the aceton beam mentioned above. Can you give me some reasoning for that option?
And while I'm at it: I keep hearing people say transphasics are so great. But my averages don't change whether I use those or quantums. So are they that great? And I see alot of folks in Pvp still using phaser beams. I use disruptors. Should I switch?
