Using the UGC Export function ?/ugcEditorExportProject <datafile>? you can export all the data about your foundry mission such as Dialog.

I was wondering if it breaches EULA or any Cryptic rules if I were to write a program that would use the exported .txt file. The idea is to parse the file and display it as dialog trees with built-in spell check and other tools.

It doesn?t mod or interfere in anyway with the STO program files and works only with the outputted txt file.

So is this Cryptic legal or not? From what I can tell from the agreements it is ok to do this, but double checking.

Since anything you do with the text file has no impact on the game, it should be fine. The export files don't contain any sensitive information that I'm aware of.

Parsing a text file is no big deal, IMO... but I'm not so sure about distributing a tool for it.

Still, wouldn't mind seeing something like that. It would come in handy to extract some dialogues in a mission I'm working on that needs to be restructured.

Ideas I am thinking of for the program are:

  • Extract Project data such as name, description, allegiance, etc
  • Each dialog tree in its own tab with tree name
  • Each dialog tree has info for replies and next prompt number to which it links
  • Spell check in tree view for easy spell checking of entire dialogs at once
  • Built-in text editor with foundry shortcuts for things like [Rank] and [NICKNAME]

Well sounds like fun, best of luck to you.

Bluegeek that was so 2011. But there I fixed it for you. If you plan to go Wishstone, I can point you to the Demo Player App and maybe the various combat parser apps to make your work easier.

It would be awesome if you made a website, where everybody can upload his file and then there would be a huge database of missions, with better search functions, for example it could display, how many maps there are, how many objectives and how much dialog, and much much more.

No idea what you're talking about and not sure I really want to know. But PM me if you'd like to.
