I only have one phaser, a beam array on it. The rest of my weapons are disruptor cannons or turrets. Though, I'm told this ship really isn't that good, I do like the universal BO stations though, but will phaser lotus be better if I go all phasers? Which of your weapons does it use when you use the phaser lotus?

My understanding is that it is like the phaser spinal lance, i.e. it benefits from phaser tactical consoles. So if you want the biggest bang for your weapon go all phaser.

The ship is actually a pretty good ship, it's very unique and fan designed.

That being said it does suffer a little from end game power creep. IE shield modifier and console slots vs. some of the fleet ships.

As mentioned the Phaser Lotus does benefit from Phaser Relay Consoles.

The lotus is pretty much Fire at will on steroids. In a one on one situation all that delicious phaser goodness gets directed at 1 target. Which can be situationally useful. Also the ship's Shield Leech is a great way to reinforce your shields when things get ugly.

The +30 to targeting systems allows for a player in tactical mode to use CrtH and CrtD to greater affect and still land hits. It also stacks with the Omega Set Deflector (for even more accuracy goodness).

Yes Phasers are the most bang for the buck. But on the plus side, you can always use the Andoran Phasers, or the Elite Phasers from the starbase upgrades.

IF you must use different weapon types then Phasers you might consider the Directed Energy Manifolds (for beams). You'll be a bit less DPS effective but you won't be outright gimping your Lotus Ability.

To be absolutely clear, the Phaser Lotus benefits from the Phaser Relay tactical consoles, so you might as well use all Phaser type weapons, so all weapons benefit from the boost.

You could still put whatever type of weapons you want, but it is always best to fill all the tactical console slots with consoles of that boost a specific energy type to get the biggest boost. Directed Energy Distribution Manifolds boost ALL energy types but the boost is not as great as the consoles that boost a specific energy type.

I hope this helps.

But I'm wondering, which weapons in which slots does it use when use the phaser lotus? If I have a 2 dual heavy cannons in the front and a phaser beam array and a dual phaser beam bank and three phaser turrets in the back, which ones does it use when I use the lotus, all the front weapons perhaps?

It does not use ANY of your equipped ship weapons. You could run all disruptor based weaponry and the phaser lotus will still fire off phaser beam arrays. You could have zero energy based weaponry (IE: only torps) and it WILL STILL fire off phaser beams for the lotus.

I ran my Chimera escort style: Dual Heavy Cannons in front and a single quantum torpedo, turrets in the back. Yes, used phasers for all of them. That said, phaser lotus can clean a sticky STF situation. Only down side: i've only ever seen it target 3 targets from even a tight grouping. The lotus comes from a console; the Dynamic Tactical something. It's not an 'actual' weapon in that respect as it's integrated directly into the hull and therefore a part of the ship itself. But to make it PERFECTLY clear: you MUST have the Dynamic Tactical console onboard and activated to tactical mode in order to arm the phaser lotus.

There are two kinds of people that put this about. The first kind are those who look at the cost of a LTS and apply that to the ship as its $ value. If you put a price tag that high on any ship in the game it looks rather bad.

The second kind are the people who insist on calling it an escort and are acustomed to min/maxing. If you rank the chimera as an escort it is going to loose when compared to any with 5 tacticle consoles. Thats a fact.

But the Chimera dose not fit into the escort/sci/cruser roles. It is multi-purpose. I do recomend a heavy cannons and turrets build such as you find on an escort, but thats just because of the general rule that if you can put heavey cannons on a ship you probably should.

The phaser lotus is nice enough, but it is pre-nerfed so that tacticle captains have to be at realy low hull when they use go down fighting to one shot whole groups. That leaves it under powerd for enginears and science captains.

The real benefit of the Chimera is its very nice boff combination, which allows for a veriety of stratergies. Success in STO is more about the proper selection of boff abilities then it is about modifiers and stats, so the chimera's boff slots are a real advantage.

Ultimatly the Chimera is a prity well ballenced ship. It is not a bad ship, or a disapointing ship. Would I say no to another console slot? Heck no, I would take it, but any one who thinks the Chimera needs it should work on their setup or handeling because it dosnt.

Planning on getting this ship myself when there is a a sell. Common misconception is that your paying $300 for this ship. Your not! You get loads of goodies when you go lifer and the ship is one of many little perks. So don't think of it as an uber expensive ship, its not. It is likely on par with top Tier Fleet Ships.

That being said, pwstolemyname said it best. As an all phaser DHC build with the appropriate tac consoles I can't see how you could go wrong. Think of it more as a Fed Chel Grett, which is awesome in its own right, rather than a Defiant, for example.
