Speaking of Btran could someone tell me if this was normal . I completed btran doff chain for the first time and got the blue tech doff. A few hours later I go back to see if I could start it again and there was a support colony doff assignment and got the purple tech from it. Needless to say i was pleased I was done got a purp tech and one blue tech with minimal effort

This was my experience as well: Got the Blue doff and then right away the Purple "10 of 10" on my first attempt at the "Support" mission.

And then...the wheels fell off! Over my next several attempts I got:

1. "Disaster" (3 of my Doffs in "Sick Bay" for 19 hours)

2. "Success" but non-critical so no new Doffs (just a "Refugee" for use in Asylum missions)

3. Another fail, but no loss of Doff use

4. Finally, a Critical success and my 2nd Purple Doff (another "10 of 10")

So, don't expect your luck to hold up...it takes persistence!

Now I'm looking for other chains to run to see what else I can get to beef-up my Doff ranks. Suggestions appreciated.

Yes, the purple doff awarded from teh colonization chains is specific to that location. If you crit the "Support..." mission 10 times, you will have 10 copies of "10 of 10" in your DOff roster.

I have three copies of the Jem'Hadar Assault Squad officer from, er, whichever cluster that is. Betreka? Rolor? Anyway, I use them for the "Strike Against Fugitive Support Network" mission, and I justify it by saying that he's so good, he's doing the job of three officers. I guess when one or two of them are in Sickbay he's just taking it a bit easy.

Well the full list is here:
http://sto.gamepedia.com/Assignment_chain

Some ones you might find useful:

Colonization chain in Khazan Cluster (awards always useful Projectile Weapons Officers)

Colonization in Delta Volanis, Zenas Expanse and Eridan Belt (these award DOffs that have two critical traits for doing Support Missions, great for getting more Support DOffs)

Facility 4028 Fugitives: Awards a Dominion Prisoner and unlocks a repeatable that awards a Dominion Prisoner on a critical success. Dominion Prisoners can be traded back to the Dominion for a random DOff that has a very high chance of being blue or purple.

Consular Authority (four different variants): Unlocks a repeatable mission that lets you trade one of your DOffs for a random one of the host species. If you use a cheap green with the right critical traits you have a decent chance of getting a blue or purple DOff back.

Project Chrysalis: Gives a unique DOff with Telekinesis, Telepathic, Resolve and Stubbon. Comes in pretty handy for some DOff missions.

Ghosts of the Jem'Hadar: Gives a free Purple Projectile Weapons Officer. Has a repeatable that awards a random Cardassian DOff on a critical success but it's not really worth doing.

Caitian Diaspora: Gives a purple quality Flight Deck Officer and a repeatable to get more (with the command bonus powers, not the recharge bonus). Not that great unless you're a carrier pilot or just want a bunch of Caitian FDOs but can be fun to do.

Well, free cardies are free doffs.

I grind the FDO recruitment mission rather obsessively simply because extra FDOs can be stuffed into the decompactor or sold or something....

MMOs aren't charities. Corporations are supposed to make a profit. It's what they do.
