Your basic engi tanking setup consists of 2xEptS, RSP and Aux2SIF. 4 slots, you can accomplish this on every cruiser, and several escorts too. With DCEs this can be done in 3 slots. Even in tac cruisers with less engi focus, tanking is easy; in fact it is more viable, as you can cycle tac team and attack patterns to a greater extent.

I agree with most of what you say - in theory this setup would likely work almost as well on a heavier ship such as the tactical oddysey and I could see it being adapted to a ship such as the fleet heavy cruiser, support cruiser retrofit, or assault cruiser without much of a difference. However, for what I do - and what I NEED my ship to do, I haven't used a ship better suited for it. It's tough. It's damaging. It's maneuverable.
