# 1 lockbox's and fleet packs
03-28-2013, 09:10 PM
Just a simple question to all my fellow STO players. How much do you have to spend on the dominion lockboxes, or well the keys that is, or on the Fleet packs before you get a Jem'hadar ship? I know that the offer for the Jem'hadar fighter is over now but I spent somewhere along the lines of about $200 on fleet packs and still did not get one Jem'hadar fighter, also about $100 on Lock box keys and still I was unable to get the Jem'hadar Dreadnought carrier. do you have to be a lifetime member to get these items, cause it seems like anytime I want any of these items the only people I know getting them are lifetime members, and usually they don't give them away they sell them for more than most people can make in game. I have been playing this game since I first heard of it, off and on. I love this game and I will continue to play as long as I can. but truly there is a bias towards the life-timers vs. the people who cant afford $300 in one sitting. I still plan on being a lifer in the end, as soon as I can collect that much in one sitting. or I can get my wife approve me spending that much on the game, again (reference the above mentioned amount).

The Biggest thing though is the before mentioned ships. some say there junk but I for one want them for my Alien ship fleet.

Please let me know if there will be a chance to have the bug ship again, and if the "Random rate" for the Dreadnought drops. in the mean time I will be Saving as much EC that I can to hopefully buy both on the exchange by, oh I don't know, December of next year. sometimes this game can be so frustrating. oh look a 12 year old kid just got another dreadnought... figures

I have stopped keeping track, because to be honest, I have stopped paying any real money on either the fleet pack or lockboxes. The odds on either are horrendous. Some people like the fleet packs more, but honest I don't. At least with the lockboxes, I can store up and as I get the EC to buy the keys of the exchange I can slowly open them and get the ships I want.

The fleet packs are great if you want the DoFFs, but if you are looking to get the ship, the odds are dollar wise, the same. So you really aren't improving anything.

Oh that's an easy question.

For any of the lockboxes / masterkeys, I have since Season 5 spend:

Zen: 0,-
Dilithium: 0,-
EC: 0,-
My name may say "PWE member", but I will never be.
-NEVER Forget the Screwups and ignorance made towards the people who supported the game through 2011
Don't look silly, don't call it "Zen-Store" - Don't waste devs time, Post proper bug-reports - I don't like Gekos

It is interesting. Usually with the first 100-150 boxes I got the Bug ship,Galor,d'kora, Jem escort carrier, and some tuffli. But when I wanted another one, then I cannot won in 250 boxes. Last time I spent 21500 Zen for fleet packs, but no ship. So sometimes cheaper to buy them on exchange.

If you see this as a gamling game, then you will be content. I won with the non ship winner pack hudge ammount of dilithium packs, other ships, weapons, etc. Sometimes, in good selling time them on exchange, nearly you can buy the wanted ship (not the bug one).

You are aware of fact that you already spend enough money to buy lifetime for gambling? Humans has invented something called "saving" so get yourself your own Cardasian piggy-bank it will allow you to have 300$ in one sitting.

And no not only lifetimers can get ships from lockbox, I know many people who didn't spend single $ for game, all ZEN and keys buy for in game currencies. All you need is pure luck.

Personally I hate such threads, it's gambling, you lose so deal with it.

OK, it seems a lot of people here did not pay attention in third grade english class. The lockboxes ARE NOT GAMBLING!!!! In order for it to be considered gambling you would have to LOSE!!! You do not LOSE when you open a lockbox...you ALWAYS get something...even if it's just a doff pack and some lobi crystals. Maybe people should consider investing in a dictionary instead of zen. Sorry about the rant...but it just irks me when when some poor little baby whines and cries because they didn't get their precious little ship they feel they are entitled to. I've opened TONS of lockboxes and haven't got a ship...so what? You don't see me whining and crying like a spoiled little girl who didn't get her way. Dang, grow up already people.

And as far as being a lifetime subscriber...well, my brother got both a ferengi d'kora and a jem'hadar heavy escort carrier...he is not a subscriber, lifetime or otherwise, and he bought his keys off the exchange. Got his d'kora on the first box he opened, so....
There's no dork like an old school dork. You just can't beat experience.

Not wining main prize is still losing even if you get some souvenir or consolation prize.

With lockboxes you risk real money or ingame currency without being sure that you will get what you want - yes this is GAMBLING.

So, long story short: The odds are bad.

The odds of getting a Jem Hadar Heavy Escort Carrier (Not the dread) from the Dominion lockbox (and any of the random lockbox jackpot ships) has been stated as about 1 in 217. That does NOT mean that you are guaranteed to get one in your first 217 boxes either.

The Attack ship from the Doff Packs I heard is similar, but some people say it is less likely and some say more. I'm not sure the exact number. Still the odds are not in your favor.

One good note to the OP: If you spend $200 on doffpacks and $100 on lockbox keys, then I will tell you right now: You have enough Lobi to buy yourself a Jem Hadar Dreadnought! Look in your inventory for the Lobi crystals, if you haven't spent any you will have at least 900 of them. Use them (right click and press use) and it will open up the store. You can buy a dreadnought carrier, a tholian carrier, or my personal favorite, a temporal destroyer.

Gambling or not? the line seems to be very thin on this. It's seems that some of the experts are starting to call it "pseudo-gambling". I came across this video of a speech by Eva Langer a lawyer for Hogan Lovells International, a German law firm that specialize in international gaming and gambling law. http://youtu.be/HZGadVI0jXQ While the speech is mainly focused on legalities of online "normal" gambling, she does touch on the chance box systems. While she state that currently most law experts feel this system is legal. However, she also feels the EU will outlaw this game mechanic at some point to keep the EU laws constants.

It is not a bad speech and worth a watch.

Oh, and I have spent $0 on lock boxes. I don't like to pseudo-gamble.
