I am a relatively new player, so I am still a tad green with what is available and how some things work. So I decided to ask some help with my new ship. I was running a Mirror Recon Science Vessel and doing well with it. I use Gravity Well. I would generally keep power in weapons all the time and either switch to Aux when using Aux abilities, or use an Aux battery.

I am using the Multi Mission Recon Explorer version, but have all three if I should be using one of the others. I can do decent damage, but find that suddenly I am a lot more fragile than before and am dying an awful lot. Missions where I might get destroyed a few times, I am dying over ten. A lot of it I imagine has to do with getting used to a new tray layout and abilities I have not used before. I also am saving my Respec token until I am more sure what skills I should use, and need to switch a few Space Doffs and the skills on some of my Boffs. I imagine all of this is factoring in. I also have not upgraded all my consoles yet from my old ship, and am unsure on weapons.

I will list what I am running at the moment, any feedback would be appreciated. As well as suggestions on Boffs and their skills, as well as my Captains skills I can respec for.

Kinetic Cutting Beam? I actually plan on it once I max out Omega Rep. I want to use that entire set, I would put the Torp from it on the Aft.

You don't have to max out the rep system to get the KCB. It's available at Tier 1. You can only equip one per ship, unfortunately. Usually gets thrown in the back with two turrets. The Borg Set is nfity and increases hull considerably. The Borg tractor beam that comes with the set is equally as useful when combined with the KCB.

I forgot there were Mk X versions of these. Derp.

I remember I wrote them off to wait for Mk XII. I will pick up the MK Xs for now.

And I actually had planned to use the set for my Science build when I planned it out originally. However that build focused on the Wells class ship. Will be a while before I can get one though.

Hi,

Here's my general recommendations:

Drop the Variable Geometry Detonator console for the TCD_Subspace_Infuser you'll get more power from your Tricobalt Mine.

Same with the Directed Energy Distribution Manifold, replace it with a Phaser Relay.

In general always use consoles for the specific weapon energy types instead of general ones because they are always more efficient.

You need to bolster your Shields, look into these items to help.

Skills:
Science - Starship Shield Systems - Increases your shield strength
Science - Starship Shield Emitters - Helps sheilds regeneration

You don't need to max-out on skills in general, generally Rank 6 is enough, more is marginally better.

If you have already invested in these, you need to respec to change them. When you do this you'll need to look at all your skills so that you don't have to respec too many more times... can be expensive.

I assume that because it does Kinetic damage, the cutting beam does flat damage like a torpedo. Is that correct and why it is being suggested?

I was going off the idea that stacked consoles have diminishing returns. That using two Phaser relays would not give the same bonus.
