Cryptic has already disappointed many of us by going on record as saying that they are more biased towards escorts and they will cater more towards them then any of the other classes.

These new Romulan ships are NOT like escorts as all. Slow turning, lumbering beasts.

In PvP that pretty much means never being anything special. Run of the mill. Ordinary at best.

If this is the case, what's the point?

You don't have any stats whatsoever on planned Romulan ships, you don't know which ones will have Fleet or Refit variants, you don't know what c-store ships there are going to be...yet you're already complaining abput how bad they'll be in PvP?

The D'deridex Class warbird I do expect to be a slow turning lumbering beast but the Mogai won't be. The Mogai is the Romulan ship I look forward to the most.

Seems like a premature concern. We can burn that bridge when we come to it.

You're right, I don't have stats. I have this, though.

"Romulan ships tend to be large and heavy, making them somewhat slower and less maneuverable than comparable Federation and Klingon Defense Force ships. The iconic D?deridex, for example, is larger and more resilient than the Galaxy ? but considerably slower as a result."

This is from Dev Blog 3.

Slow ships with cannons aren't as useful as fast ships with cannons. I don't think many people will argue with this, after all if you can't get the cannons aimed at the enemy they're useless. This is but one of the things that makes the JHAS so deadly.

Logic follows that if your ship can't turn fast enough for cannons you're going to have to fit on beams or torpedoes. (I seriously doubt there will ever be a ship that only packs mines and nothing else.)

I seriously doubt that they will invalidate the Feds and the klinks by making the Romulans noticeably stronger or have wildly stronger powers. If they do that then who will play (and pay for items from) the original two factions? That being said, apart from a few new fancy powers they're just going to be green ships that will blend in to the PvP background. Any serious PvP Romulan will just fly a JHAS.

Cryptics blind lust for the profits generated by escorts will hurt the Romulans.

The new expansion is coming with massive balance passes along with the new content, its very possible beams may became a viable alternative to DHC's.

I sincerely hope this is the case. I want Star Trek Online, not escorts online.

ITT: OP fails to notice that plenty of people seem to make cruisers and other slow things viable in PvP, and that most serious premades have more sci ships than escorts.

Most sci ships turn relatively fast and deliver their deadly deeds in a burst, SensorScan subnuke ect. 5/7 turnrate is far different from 13

The only way a rom cruiser will be viable is if it has one crazy powerful alpha strike from cloak. Something most cruiser type ships arn't setup for. Anyway I call the "Durpy'Dex" right now as the future naming for it. And will also admit I am going to buy a scimitar no matter how terrible a ship it may be if they give us the option.

What it overlooks is the following:

Retrofit versions of the various ships.
Fleet versions of the various ships.
C-Store versions of other ships.

It's going to be a P2T faction.

Pay-to-Turn.
