# 1 Hideki based on Steamrunner?
04-11-2013, 08:05 AM
I don't know if this is the right sub-forum for this post, but as a MAJOR fan of the Cardassian Galor class I've been wanting to get my hands on a saller, even more maneuverable Cardassian escort as well. It dawned on me that since the Hideki ship model already exists as a NPC ship it is probably relatively easy for the Cryptic devs to bring it to us as a playable ship.

The NPC Hideki is pretty weak but I was thinking a great solution would be to use the "Steamrunner" solution which already exists: Offer the Hideki as a C-store lock box that includes a tier-1 configuration with only a few weapons slots and console slots, only a couple ensign Boffs, as well as weak hull ... and a tier-5 Hideki with more weapon and console slots, room for higher-ranked/more Boffs and better hull.

Cryptic could even use much of the same specs/layout of the existing tier-1 and tier-5 Steamrunner (Blockade Runner) to simplify things.

I bet if Cryptic bundles a Tier-1 and Tier-5 Hideki (and includes some of those awesome spiral wave disruptor-style weapons) in a single lock box there are MANY people who will pay for it.

the hideki is like a runabout/patrol ship.
sure, a runabout thats mainlined some major stims, but its still a shuttle/patrol boat.

think of it like one of those pbr type boats in ww2 that fired torpedo's off the deck.
Cryptic.

Actually, the only "canon" technical information about the Hideki that I'm aware of comes from the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Technical Manual. According to that book the Hideki has a crew of "30 plus flight crew" and is armed with "Four or more spiral-wave disruptors; one medium aft disruptor wave cannon; possibly other weapons."

The Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Technical Manual also lists the dimensions of the Hideki as "Length, 85.78 meters; beam, 60.14 meters; height, 12.43 meters" And it has a mass of "120,000 metric tonnes."

Those specs all suggest the Hideki is more like a Cardassian Bird of Prey, Jem'Hadar Bug ship or Starfleet Defiant and not a little runabout.

hmm. i guess.
i had gone with the stats on mem-alpha since they fit with the startrek: invasion game i didnt question it. though ditl.org givs the stats you posted.

unless it is a lot like the kling bop & there are two different ships that look the same but are different sizes. as the tale goes.

It's a force recon / patrol and light assault vessel. The BoP parallel (minus the cloak obviously) is fairly apt.

Okay, then maybe the Devs can offer a T1 and T5 Hedeki box based on the layout and specs of a BOP (minus the cloak) and equipped with Cardassian weapons.

In any case, I would REALLY like a playable Hideki and it shouldn't be hard for the Devs to make it happen since the Hideki model already exists in the game for NPCs.

I imagine that was part of the reason they offered the playable Breen ship during the holidays ... it was easy to create since the model already existed.

The problem here is that putting a second Cardie ship in a lockbox would effectively kill any chance of a future Cardassian faction. The Galor, Hideki and Keldon are the iconic Cardassian ships shown from DS9/TNG. Having a majority of them come from lockboxes would not be good.

I understand the concern about using up ships that would be part of a future release. However, nothing is stopping Cryptic from offering the Galor and Hideki in lock boxes now AND offering them for Zen credits whenever the Devs finally get around to creating a Cardassian playable faction.

The reason I'm suggesting this is because I'm not particularly interested in role playing as a Romulan or Reman but I am interested in playing as a Cardassian. Most of my current Starfleet crew are "alien" characters that I customized to look like Cardassians and the ship I use most frequently is the Galor.

It's easier (and quicker) for the Devs to release another Cardassian ship like the Hideki for us to play with current factions NOW rather than wait another 1-2 years (or longer) for the Devs to role out a playable Cardassian faction.

Just look at how long it took for them to offer the Romulan playable faction ... and the Romulans are one of the original "big three" galactic powers from TOS and TNG.

I absolutely want a Cardassian playable faction, but I don't want to be stuck with just a Galor for the next year or more ... assuming Cryptic ever actually offers a Cardassian faction.
