# 1 Shields

Hi

Recently i read the Power Level Guide, but i don't undestand how the shield's power level works.

I believed it improves only the shield regeneration, but, if I remember correctly what I read, it improves the shield resistance too.

Also, the shield regeneration works only out of red alert state, right ?
So, in combat, is the shield power level useless ?

the shield power level detemines the shield regen and resistence. with 50 shield power you have the stats showing in the tooltip, every point over or below, will cause 4% regen add or loss. and the regen works too in combat.

What is meant for resistance ?

The shield capacity ?
Or the resistance to determinate types of damage ?

The resistance displayed in your character panel is the ship's hull resistance. Shields have their own resistance mechanic that nullifies part of an incoming attack.

One way to boost that resistance is to increase power to your shields.

mmm is it the same one that is displayed as bonus on some shields ?
ex: +20% plasma resistance (from the MACO shields).

it doesnt increase you max shield cap, but how much dmg your shield can withstand.
if one shield point can take one dmg, with higher shield power one shield point can take more dmg.

The power level calculator includes a box that will calculate your power based shield damage resistance from the power level (which it also calculates based on your skills, equipment, and settings). And this resistance is applied to all damage (or at least to all energy damage, I'm not 100% sure on that). Also note that different shield damage resistances will stack multiplicatively (eg. for a 20% and a 10% you take 0.8*0.9=0.72 and so the total resistance is 28%).
