Ha, I've been chosen, too!

I'll start testing as soon as I come back from University this evening

I got my invite last night... was thoroughly surprised and excited.

Unfortunately, due to work constraints, couldn't start right away. But... the timing is great, I have off all of next week.... bring it on.

You mean I've been playing a Beta these past several years?

More accurately, I wonder why people are excited to bug test when they know Cryptic will ignore practically all Tribble feedback.
Most JJ Trek hate = IDIC fail.

Can't be because I haven't really spent any "money" on anything since it went F2P. I have spent my stipend on BO slots and just bought the vesta 3 pack last week with dil/zen converstion. I have however, been on tribble for every release since I joined STO in May of 2010. I also "Like" STO on FB and I believe a few months back there was a link on STO's FB page to put your name in for a slot to beta LoR. My guess is it is random, like dstahl said, plus I'm sure they have records of what captains consistently test Tribble, and then maybe some other criteria, like maybe how often an account is logged in, which is daily in my case.

Your ears look a little pointier.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

Not agreeing the the player(s) arguments or conclusions is not the same as disregarding or ignoring player feedback. I can tell you with 100% certainty that Cryptic doesn't ignore player feedback. They listen to it very carefully. to feedback especially when testing new things.

I've been in every Cryptic Close Beta sessions of all every game that Cryptic has developed. (Although I will admit to buying my way into Neverwinter's closed beta sessions) But I can tell you from personal experience that Cryptic developers to listen and taking player's comments and argument into consideration.

The thing that players need to realize is that we don't know or have access to all of the considerations and long range goals that the developers have. All we have is what we see in the games, and what the developers are willing to talk about publicly, We are an important consideration as we are the customer. But we need remember that player feedback is one consideration amount many considerations.

And as to why testers test? Well first thing is that I get my handles on something new...first even (yes I am being a bit elitist there). And I like debugging things. If something breaks, I want to figure out why they break so it can be fixed. Yes, I like doing that.

Two example of that, first is last night I had to replay a mission last night many time to figure how I get into a situation where it would not complete. That means logging out, waiting 5 minutes for mission instance to despawn, and then running that segment all over again because the situation was at the very end. I did things as a player would do things which the mission designer probably didn't consider.

Another example is last year I was running exploring missions while Borticus was in TTS chat. I used the IDIC Tribble on that character and a bug was that the IDIC Tribble buff activation F/X kept playing on my BOFFs and summoned pets at random. I mentioned it in TTS and Borticus said it was a bug they had not been able to pin down. I continued playing keeping an eye on what I did. I found out what triggered the replay of the IDIC buff F/X. My character was an Engineer summoning generators and turrets and mines. That trigger the F/X playing on characters and pet. I told Borticus what I found. And we got a fix for most of the random F/X playing within a couple of weeks.
